Changing network share session timeout

Featured Replies

I obviously don't have the precise terminology to find the answer I want on Microsoft's website or Google, so will try the Briskoda Knowledge Base. :)

On an XP Professional PC, I would like to adjust the session time for shared folders in order to give more than 10 people/PCs on the LAN access the files on the server.

I know you can't increase this 10 session limit in XP, but files are only opened and shut occasionally, however the session seems to persist too long to allow someone else to come along and open/edit/close a file.

I assume that somewhere in the registry is a value that can make the sessions timeout quicker - but where?!

I guess I'm trying to run it like an ISP where there is only a pool of available modems but not everyone dials up at once. This is a temporary fix until a new box o tricks (Windows server or maybe even Linux) is made. Or maybe there is a fix/hack for XP? (I doubt it)

Ta for any help!
