anyone have pics of their xenons/ hid's on.

Featured Replies

I'm just gathering the bits and peices for the xenon conversion just now but it occurred to me I have never actually seen an octy mk1 with xenons turned on. Just to see the difference as it made a huge difference to the look of my mondeo and obviously how I see down the road to.

Cheers fellas, Rob I noticed yours are more yellow than big Jases are they standard? I am aiming for 6000k bulbs. Is that wot u have jase?

  • Author

I stand corrected Rob, I take it you changed bulbs for those last few photos?

Might just be the camera white balance - later ones were taken with a different camera.

Still on the original bulbs at 8 years old :)

I am just using oem 4.3k lights!

Look the best imo! Blue is tack

I agree blue is chavtastic, I just want white which is what I thought 6000k is, may be on the blue side rather than yellow.

No, 4,300k is the whitest you will find, higher than this an they start going blue then purple.

Are you fitting them into projectors?

If you want white and a hint of blue you want 5k! But there hard to get!

6k imo is too blue and they will look like fake hid kit jobbies

4.3k oem will give the best light output on the road!

Mines had 10 year old factory bulbs in and i just replaced like for like as xenons do get 'tired' and light output suffers

Are they both OEM units fitted to your cars or where they retrofitted? With DEPO or

original headlights? Just wondered how you went about fitting yours.

Robs looks factory as he has washer jets!

Mines are retro-fitted using genuine oem xenon units off a 2002 wrc vrs, wiring is different so i had to get kufatec loom adaptors!

Only problem is the xenon goes out when you switch to full beam but this can be altered by running an extra wire from the headlight stalk to the headlight switch (not done this yet but theres a guide on ukmkivs.net for it)

Oh ok. I've bought the DEPO copies of originals with all the same fixings. Projectors. But was going to fit h4 hid kit to them to make wiring simple and so I can revert back to norm if required. May do full beam too although it wouldn't be projector, although I suppose light scatter isn't such a problem on full beam, unless I don't switch to dip quick enough wen someone comes along.

Mine are factory.

You wont be able to fit h4's into the headlight unit,

It will have a hole for a d2s bulb!

The plug on the headlight will differ to the non xenon loom so you'll need the adaptors, halogen loom is 8 pin plug wheras xenons are 11 pin

im such a chav...

The plug on the back of the OEM units can be in-clipped so that you can remove the wiring loom. Mine are now a hybrid of xenon and halogen wiring harness, but the plug on the car is still the original halogen one, so no adaptor required.

To get the dipped beam to stay on with main beam you need to run one extra wire from the back of the headlight switch down to the fuse box. I did this on my Bora and on the Octy. The wire is present on all Golfs and Octys/Boras with xenons, but not with H4s.

Can you tell me which terminal it goes to?

On the mkivs forum it says link needed from switch to stalk?

I'm tempted to get the Depo re-makes and fit HID's to them, always a temptation to hang on and wait for someone else to do it first though :)

depo make lights for octys now then?

Only OEM style, designed to replace the standard Xenon units.

ahh i see.
