Rimstyle Beware

Featured Replies

Just a warning to anyone who is thinking of ordering wheels+tyres from this company.

You may know that i posted a thread with pics of my new wheels last week but it wasn't all smooth going, firstly i had some issues over the delivery that i commented on in tuners and workshop on this site.when i fitted the wheels myself all appeared fine until i decided to take a test run on the motorway, takes it up to 70/80mph and noticed a terrible vibration throughout the car, first thing came to mind was that the new wheels were not balanced,as this is what would most likely cause vibration.

Contacted rimstyle and they got back in touch, did you fit the spigot rings and the correct lug nuts, yes i received the fitting kit with wheels and used the lug nuts that you supplied for the wheels.Well we'll send you some other lug nuts for you to try and see what happens,ok i said.So i fitted the new lug nuts took the car out and still the same vibration,in my own mind i knew it was incorrect wheel balance.I have a mate who works at Lodge Tyre and he checked the car over for me this morning, took each wheel off and checked the balance.Well surprise surprise he said yes mate all the wheels were out of balance, but i've sorted it for you, they just seemed to of stuck weights all over the wheel.

Cheers mate i said for sorting it out,i also had my wheel alignment done at same time..Cough cough wink wink :)

Now i know these places must have multiple orders to get through and send out and mistakes can happen, but it has basically stripped my confidence in ordering from them again,i always used to order from wheelbase and never had a problem ever.

Just thought i would make you all aware that if you do order from Rimstyle go on a motorway and check for correct balancing,as this fault will not show if you just fit new wheels and drive on town or urban roads.

I've emailed rimstyle and i await to here what they say about it. :moon:

No body is perfect, we are all able to make genuine mistakes.

It is how those mistakes are dealt with that matters.

Sending out some replacement lug nuts goes some way to suggest that they are willing to try and help.

A small refund or gesture of goodwill to recompensate you for having to have the wheels re-balanced would go along way in solving the issue for me.

Let us know how they respond...

So here is the response,at least i got a reply..An issue though,i can understand a weight falling off in transit, but on all four wheels.Had many sets of wheels never had this problem from the other supplier i used.First time for everything i guess...

Anyhow no point in taking this further..

Just beware when you get new wheels people as a mail order package or otherwise, check the balance is right..

Thank you for the below mail and sorry to hear the wheels were out of balance. The products fit and balance procedure would never be rushed to the point of it not being carried out correctly, we just prioritised your order to ensure it left for the best time turn around for you.

We use Hoffman balancing equipment which balances wheels to a zero error tolerance, so my only thought can be that possibly 1 or more balance weights came off from the wheel in transit as they would have been balanced to zero tolerance before leaving our premises. Apologies for the issue experienced, but I am pleased to hear all is now resolved.

Can I just confirm you are now using the full set of PCD variation bolts which were provided and reissued on a separate delivery with City Link?

Kind regards

Gary

What wheels were they and I take it when they say PCD variation bolts they mean you have got a slightly different PCD to a std wheel.

It's a shame this has happened as Rimstyle have always been spot on for me. It's also worth noting that they supply wheelbase too with some wheels.

They have their procedures and they have guys that should follow the procedures. If the guy is trying to knock of early no paper work is going to stop him just throwing your wheels in a box so he can get away early.

If you'd had to pay for the balance they should reimburse you otherwise I'm not sure what else they could do other than apologise.

Well when i first ordered the wheels, they called me the next morning on Thursday to say they didn't have that wheel in stock,so i had already picked an alternative incase of this happening.I was assured that everything else was in stock as far as tyres etc concerned, and i would get them early part next week,Monday/Tuesday and i was fine with that.So when Tuesday came and no delivery i called them up,and they said we had only just sent them out because we didn't have the tyres, which was different to what i was told the previous week,so now the delivery would be on Thursday.Well Thursday came and no delivery so i called them up again to be told you should of had them, call us at 5pm on Friday if you haven't had them.Lucky i did get them Friday afternoon, this was the bank holiday weekend btw,and i wasn't able to fit the wheels until Monday and that's when all this car vibration happened on motorway test run.So i called them on Wednesday, and he said what lug nuts did you fit,the ones that came with the wheels and spigot rings i said,Oh you should of had a separate delivery on the Friday of some lug nuts to go with those wheels,I said well i haven't had any other delivery,So he had to go chase up what happened and that's when he told me we were in a hurry to get your wheels out to you, that's when it kinda clicked and got me suspicious that they had rushed on the balancing. So i can understand maybe a wheel weight had fallen of in transit as he is stating in the E mail,ok it happens i guess, but when my mate at Lodge tyre checked the wheels,he said mate i've had to re balance all four wheels,as they hadn't been done correctly, and they hadn't placed the weights correctly in position on the wheels, you see the whole car was shaking and vibrating through the floor and up through the steering wheel,So i know my mate wasn't bull crapping me about having to re do all four of the wheels, and i can see where he has re positioned the weights on the wheels.

Anyhow i'm not out for blood, but most of us on here do mods on our cars etc,and when you pay hundreds of pounds for something, you expect a proper job to be done,so i have had to pay for wheels to be correctly balanced,ok it wasn't a massive amount of money, but still it don't exactly give you confidence to buy from the business again does it,plus i had someone waiting in all week for them wheels because i couldn't be sure what day they would come on,as it kept changing throughout the week when i would call them after no delivery.

She wasn't best pleased i had her chained to the house all week

Where the wheels packed for transit?

Given the forces that weights through on a daily basis, should they "just fall off in transit"? Surely, if packaged, you'd have noticed weights in the packaging?
