Just went to check the oil on the wife' 05 reg Fabia 1 VRS and when I took the cap off noticed a lumpy, almost grease like residue in the neck, just below where the oil cap locks in place.

No idea what it is but doesnt look too nice.

Has anyone seen this before or know what it is or why it's there?

Any comments etc most appreciated!

Is the oil in the sump the same? Its nothing to worry about on the cap, it happens with short journeys, the oil is pressurised and pushed up, then residue settles in the cap, worth wiping it away, and poss doing an engine flush at next change.

Its not white is it?

Oil on the dipstick is typical oil (blackish), looks like the thick sludge / residue is only below the cap and built up around the edges of the oil inlet.

It's not white, more of a blackish / grey sludge.

Car is mostly used for short daily commute of about 5 minutes each way.......needs a service soon anyway.

Hoping it's nowt too serious, as car seems to run fine otherwise!

Its normal, and the short runs confirms it, take her out and get her nice and hot a good half hour 45 minutes once in a while, give it some beans within reason
