My wifes 10 plate fabia now has 5 dings on it, none of which were done by us, none of them reported to us and the chips away guys have said all but 2 are too big for them to sort out. (3 little dings, 1 bumper scrape and 1 that looks like a towball into the door)

The last one has split the paintwork too, but with a £250 excess on our policy, will have to wait until we can afford to get it done

Barstewards indeed!!

Oh S@@T, Its Nationwide Middlesborough!!!

I can just feel my BP getting higher already. The other annoying thing is that they only offer a Fiat Panda  as a courtesy car. You can upgrade to a Punto for £12, a Bravo for £24 and an Alfa for £60. I 've gone for the Bravo as I could not do 300 miles a week to work in a Panda or is that being snobish  .

It's a Fiat - you'll be lucky to do any miles to work in it... You'll be more comfortable waiting for the AA than if you were in a Panda though. Hope your car gets sorted quickly.

Sorry to hear about this

I got scraped the other weekend in a car park so I feel your frustration - nice big white scratches all over the corner of my rear bumper. And yep, this culprit also just drove off...

Haven't the insurance companies changed now regarding approved repairers? I'm sure the small print on my policy states I can take my car to a repairer of my choice...but have to pay an extra 200 quid on my excess for the privilege!

Aviva per-chance? They're the only ones I've seen who do this. Other insurers such as LV don't charge. John Lewis doesn't even appear to have an approved repairer network, talking to them (they just said you take it to whoever you want, and they sort it out from there, when asked).

It would be interesting to see if you could argue that as the extra excess is significantly one-sided term (e.g. loss of anti-corrosion warranty) and wasn't able to be negotiated, if it were compatible with the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Yeah, I think it's pretty normal for a company to say they won't give you a courtesy car if it's not an approved repairer. Just trying to twist your arm to using theirs as far as I can see. Luckily, the place I went was on some registered scheme or other so they were happy with it.

13062012092.jpgTook the car in to RMB. Very helpfull and said that I had to leave the car there and gave me a car to come home in, as the damage to the wing made it illegal to drive as too much of the wheel is exposed. (the other two places obviously didnt know or care). When talking to the young girl who took the details, she said that the insurers cant refuse to do the job, but will haggle over parts prices etc. As its VAG approved it will keep the 8 year perforation warranty. When I mentioned nationwide, the assessor said FGS dont take it there, even if you dont bring it here!!, they are very poor(not his words exactly but you get the drift). The only downside was that the only car available was a Toyota AYGO  . He hopes to have an Auris by Friday as its too small for the miles I do. (Its very basic compared to the Octavia but is fairly nippy up to 50mph then losses puff). Here's a couple of pics. <img src=" />

You mean 12 year warranty!

They seem like a good place then to give you a car there and then. The damage is quite bad - i didn't expect to see that tbh!

Insurance has now aggreed to the work, but the price has gone up as the sill needs a bit of work(£2000), all for a seconds carelessness in not looking behind them.

Wondering now what happens to my NCB protection. If I want to change insurers as I usually do each year, can you transfer this protection once a cliam has been made or do you have to stick with the current one?

Do you have protected NCD?

If you do then your NCD will stay as it currently is but you won't gain an extra year.

If you don't then you will lose all your NCD.

Yes Shane, I have NCD protection, and I have never had a claim in 25 years. I thought I read somewhere that if you change companies after a bump they will no longer let you carry over the NCD protection.

Update - Got the car back from RMB in Yarm a few weeks ago and been on holiday since. They have done a very good job. New door and wing. Cost a bit more than the other quotes (£2000 appprox) but Hastings agreed straight away, so can't fault them either. (waiting to see what the increase in premium will be though).

Now, what do I do? What will the car be worth %wise less now that it's been repaired?

I have been thinking of the folllowing options:

1. Keep it for the remaining time( march 2015 as its on a PLP) then give it back.

2. Trade it while the 20% deal plus £500 deposit contribution is still on.

I know whatever happens I am screwed price wise, and I am going to take a big hit on the remaining value, plus the finance charges.

I am not made of money, but due to the PPI carry on, those lovely people at Santander (was Alliance & Leicester) are going to give me a couple of grand back for some loans I had 10 years ago, so I can either buy a Caravan, or give it to Skoda :sun:

Your car won't be worth any less, unless it's a bad repair. Unless you tell someone there will be no way of anyone knowing its had a bump. Only written off and stolen vehicles are on the data base which dealers and the general public can access

If you must 'give' the £2k away give it to me  ;)

Glad the repair has all worked out well and the job certainly looks good from the pics

Agree wityh raf, If the cars repaired properly it wont effect the value at all & it wont be on any database. Some brand new cars are repaired & the owners never know, if a car is bumped coming off the boat or during delivery they dont just throw it away.

No claims will be protected but the insurance may go up. you still get the percentage discount but the base figure will rise, another little trick insurance companies dont broadcast

Why would you sell it when it has had a fully approved repair?

As said, you shouldn't be able to tell and wont affect resale or value.

Heard stories of brand new cars having the whole front and rear quarters repaired after a rough sea crossing and not being lashed down properly. And of course the new owners were never told lol

You do 100% have the right to dictate who repairs your car.I've just renewed my insurance on my 61 plate Octy L & K, I was with aviva and they do indeed impose an additional £200 excess if you do not use their approved repairer. I hunted around and asked the question of what penalty is imposed if i do not use the approved repairer, and found LV to be very very good price wise and the only penalty for not using their repairer is you get no courtesy car. I did however take a policy with Skoda endurance where regardless of your insurer they garauntee a VAG franchised repairer along with legal cover and courtesy car as well, that was £54 but with legal and car included it reduced my LV quote by almost £40.

Yep

A friend worked for a body shop in Southampton, they did loads of minor scuffs & dinks. Worst was one that fell on its side whilst being driven off the boat.

If a repair is done properly it wont be an issue & the manufaturer will make sure of that, a few bad repairs could seriously damage the companies reputation

Thanks for all your replies, the repair is spot on and looks great. There was no damage to the supports so the door fits perfectly. I was worried, as I thought as soon as you HPI the car, then a big red flashing light comes on and the dealer starts knocking 000's off, which is why I was going to trade sooner rather than later.

I also have an issue with vibrations through the clutch which havent got any better and I have heard from a Skoda Technician friend of a friend, that its a known problem with the DM flywheel, so that still needs sorting if the dealer will acknoledge there is a fault. Previously they said they all do it :wall: .

I'll post a piccy when I get chance.
