Apple Worldwide Developer Conference has started

Featured Replies

Apple stores are down worldwide and new products are currently being announced at the Apple WWDC. 2012 15" MacBook Pro confirmed as having a 2880x1800 pixel retina display....

Pointless on such a small screen...

Wonder if they'll 'Developer' a fix for the wifi drop-outs in Lion I'm currently enjoying :wall:

Gaz

My thoughts (Althought I may have missed a few things - not had time to confirm some impressions)...

MacBook Pro

No increase on < 15" screens

Only the "retina" 15" is slimmer!

HDMI on a Pro laptop pretty pointless when you have thunderbolt (£10 cable)

2x USB3 - Great, but could had made it 3 without the HDMI

Slimmer MagSafe - why???? I guess to force you to buy another spare rather than keep the spare from the machine you're upgrading

No 17" Machine - no Laptop with a Cardbus Slot

Mac Pro

No upgrade for the Mac Pro

MacBook Air

No retina screens

8gb of ram - finally, bet it's still soldered on though

IOS 6

Facebook - woohoo </sarcasm>

More Siri - Doesn't work well at all, hopefully they've fixed it!

Turn by turn nav - we can but hope it'll work in the uk

Still good news about Mountain Lion coming out next month - looking forward to screen sharing over airplay to the ATV2.

No new pie phone else those who'd just bought 4S' would be screaming murder!

iOS 6 out in the Auntmn, and Mountain Lion available from July at £13.00.

Disappointed by no announcement of a new iPhone. :(

Wrong.

Don't forget apple have never scaled with resolution the same way windows has. (think win8 will be the first)

Both my ipad3 and galaxy s3 have high ppi screens and they are wonderful

No, you're wrong.

There's no point having super high definition screens without super high definition content. Yes, the GUI might look nice, but all video content is stuck at the imposed "1080p" resolution currently. 2k and 4x are still a loooooong way off being even close to a mainstream consumer format.

Don't be so silly, we all know the sole purpose of the Internet is for porn distribution :p

Very true... but having acres of screen space is fine when you've got 24" or 30" monitors... but a 13" laptop screen?

The 13" MacBook Pro doesn't have a Retina display.

Alright, 15" then... still pointless!

Let's wait and see what the informed reviews say in due course.

Bearing in mind a certain broadcaster used to say that 1080p on anything 32" and below was pointless, due to not being able to tell the difference and there being more pixel boundaries where there was no image, then I can believe that it's pointless.

Sure a mac works differently to windows for scaling, but even so.

Do we need a 8k laptop soon? Maybe you can cram in a super hi vis one too?

i just put the ios6 beta on my 4s so far pretty impressed with it, seems a good deal faster, some nice new features around the alert suppression side of things, Siri now works how it does in the adverts with local information.

The new mapping app is vastly improved with proper turn by turn directions and the image quality of the places that have had high res images done so far is quite amazing.

But you do love to suckle at the decaying teat of Jobs, though Wap ;)

i just like an easy life spent too long faffing with things, im happy in my fisher price world :)

BTW when did displays start getting measured in cool rather than pixels?

The ;new iPad' has a Retina display, and next to an iPad 2 its CLEARLY sharper and more detailed.

So, a retina display on a smaller screed CAN, and DOES make a difference.
