Pros and cons of buying UK spec or EU spec Galaxy Note?

Featured Replies

So I ordered a UK spec Galaxy Note from Expansys on Sunday, which should have been with me by Tuesday. However, due to the total incompetence of Expansys, I am still yet to receive it. As of this evening, they have not even despatched it. This after being in touch with their customer service department four times so far this week.

So tomorrow I will quite probably cancel my order with them and buy from elsewhere (most likely a seller on Amazon). The thing is that no one else has a UK spec handset for sale, they are all EU or International release handsets. The question is, if I order one of these, will it be the same as the UK set? Will the latest ICS release be available for international handsets? Will it include the Premium Pack productivity suite? Is the warranty honoured by Samsung UK and is it for 2 years like the UK spec handset?

And when did Expansys become so ****? they used to be excellent.

Help and advice appreciated.

1/ The hardware will be identical, although the manual may not be in English.

2/ Possibly not, these type of extras are usually a local promotion.

3/ Warranties inside the Euro zone have to be honoured by the local dealers regardless of where you are, so yes.

4/ Everyone is minimising stock levels, so "out of stock" problems are on the rise with lots of suppliers.

Many thanks for the input. A bit more searching around has revealed the Premium suite is global release and Samasug warranty is 24 months on both EU and UK handsets. As for Expansys, it is not an out of stock problem, they have them, but seem to be taking forever to ship it. Spoke to their customer services again this morning, apparently I only ordered it yesterday (I orered it Monday morning!), so I cancelled the order and am going with Amazon instead. Expansys used to be really good, but I would be very wary of trying to buy anything from them now.

Are you looking at the Note from Amazon DE? - it keeps cropping up as being good value on HUKD... seems quite alot of people have gone for them so should be ok.

I have ordered off Amazons UK site. No idea if it will be UK our EU handset. It is from Amazon directly, not via a reseller, so delivery should be as promised. I did try Amazon.de, but the price has climbed there and for the sake of a few quid, went b for the option that gives lowest potential problems.

Looking forward to playing with ICS. Looks very nifty.

Must say ics is awesome on the note, rubs so much smoother but I have noticed its freezing more. The suit is also much better. Will never go back from a note

I'd have had the Note instead of the SGS2, except it's like holding a book to your ear.

SatNav must be nice and clear though. ;)

Haha it is a little large but got used to it quite easily and quickly

So far so good. The unit that turned up is a UK unit. When I powered it on out flagged up an available update which is Android 4.0.3. Update was OTA and went smoothly. Samsung Touch wiz or whatever it is called is a bit cluttered and overly complicated compared to the very pared back Dell Streak.

Size wise, I use a headset or paired to the car most of the time, so not worried about it. In the pocket it is slimmer and lighter than the Streak.

Screen its excellent. Really liking the phone so far.
