Dealer-fit paint protection?

I've just put down a deposit on a 1.2 roomster in miami blue. The dealer is offering autoglym lifeshine : paint protection, fabric scotchguard, glass (something) for £300. I've not found it in searching here, so I wondered if anyone's got anything good or bad to say about it?

I've read up a bit on detailing forums and am thinking that it might be better value to take it to a specialist, assuming it's worth doing at all?

I'd like to keep the body and paint in good condition over time, but I'm not too fussed about what they look like most of the time. (IE I'd like it to be possible to get them looking nice if I wanted, but I don't mind if they're covered in some dirt as long as it's not damaging what's underneath)

I've not had a car with metallic paint before, and not a new car for a long time, so any info would be great thanks.

You would be far better off protecting the paintwork yourself. It will cost a fraction of the £300 that the dealer quotes and for added piece of mind you will know that the protection has actually been applied correctly. £50 should see you with all the quality products you require. Clay bar and lubricant, polish, sealant and wax and about a days satisfying graft.

+1 with the above posts.

Either do it yourself or take it to a detailer who will charge you less for a "new car protection" and will advise you on the best way to maintain your cars paintwork.

For £300 you can get a pro detailer to do an amazing job on your car! They will be 10000000000000000000000000000 times better than your dealers valeter! It wouldn't be good value for money at all.
