Buying a used Yeti - what to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi,

With any luck, I am about to change my car for used Yeti (diesel 140 or 170, 4x4). The local main dealer has a few to choose from in the 12-18 month old range.

Is there anything specific athat I should watch out for?

It's always difficult getting the spec you want in a used car, but good luck with whatever you choose, it will be a GREAT investment, and you will have TONS of driving enjoyment with it.

Thanks Macdemon,

I hope it proves to be a better investment than my Mazda3 which continues to cost a fortune to keep on the road.

Looking forward to the test drive(s) later this week.

For what it is worth, mine is now 2yo, and possibly up for trade in against the next.

In that 2 years it has been serviced, shod, cared for etc by a dealer as it should be, and has never ever let me down in any way at all - apart from not having a drivers bum warmer fitted at the start!.

So - in answer to your query, from my perspective, - not a lot! It should be brilliant.

Likewise, although mine is a 110.

Two years old and dealer serviced.

15000 miles with no problems at all.

You won't be disappointed.

Very few issues with the Yeti; odd ones have squeaks and rattles (my first defiantly fell in that category) and some early sunroof water leaks is about it.

Oh post August 2010 build have a slightly improved front suspension setup, which can be identified by looking underneath at the front sub-frame, which will be a steel box rather than cast aluminium on the older design.

I agree with the other comments. I've only had mine for 2 months so can't comment on servicing or reliability.

All I know it is more fun to drive and much more comfortable than my previous car, which was a 2010 Mercedes SLK with all the toys.

The Yeti particularly with the 140bhp engine & DSG box is a hoot to drive. As I say when I leave some lad in his hot hatch far behind on a country road - this car is mad!

Enjoy it!

Look out for scratches on the roof which may indicate it has been used as a helicopter landing pad. Aside from that - no worries!

Thanks everyone. Off to dealer tomorrow.

Check the paintwork carefully, especially the lower door sides and edges.

At 23,000miles mines showing chips and small rust spots on both sides.

My windscreen also has a couple of small chips on it ,and it's already been replaced once.

Mechanically though it's not missed a beat.

Well that was a pleasnat experience - the test drive part that is. Took out a used Elegance diesel 170 with about 20,000 miles on the clock. Apart from a couple of minor stone chips, I couldn't find anything wrong with it at all.

I'll probably buy it.

Cheers

If it's the silver one showing on Skoda UK, it looks pretty good. You mention stone chips, just make sure that the car has got the plastic foils fitted to the lower quarters of the rear doors as this was a Skoda recall for cars that didn't have them.

Apart from that, the Elegance spec is nice and I find my 140 quick enough so the 170 should be brilliant. The 170 was brought out after I bought my very early 140 but I would definitely go for the 170 if buying now.

Were the stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet? That's where I have some. Glad you enjoyed the car. The 170 must go a bit!

Awesome choice!

Thanks to all who replied.

The stone chip was on the leading edge of the bonnet, in the middle. Sides look clean.

Purchase made. Roll on next week.

Now need to clear out the garage to make room for it!
