Rear brake fluid leak

Featured Replies

Had a nightmare over weekend

Just had clean MOT and checked rear pads, very worn down(not like me to leave it that long). Although passed MOT i decided after it to change pads. There was less than 2mm left of pads.

started to replace and then discovered the capliers would not wind back in, even with windback tool and a breaker bar used. Seems piston is too far out. tried opening bleed nipple but no joy.

Removed both calipers from car and wound out pistons and removed to clean them up. They were in there dam tight, used heavy mole grips to finaly get them out. Removed piston outer seal and caplier inner seal to clean them up. Driver side caliper seal looked a little pitted, but nowhere open on late sunday, so decided to clean up and refit. In refitting drivers side I was getting a little fluid leaking from the flexi hose so guess this is the alloy washers that may need replacing. tightened down as far as i dare.

reassembled and top up fluid then noticed a lot more fluid dripping out looks like dripping down the inner side of dust shield/disc protector. Again guess this is the poor seal in the psiton caliper.

Anyone had same symptons ?

can you get a seal kit to replace all this seals or is it a new caliper/piston

never letting pads get that low again.....

Never has this problem I change the rear ones every year, (bit of a worrywort I know). Always been a bit twitchy about self adjusting handbrakes.

You can get a set of rear seals, see below:-

Nice one buddy ETKA was not working today so ordered those today against my reg so hopefully ok.

Also tried to order 2 new copper washers for flexi pipe but had to get whole new bango and flexi pipe with washer fitted. Dam annoying as the original wahsers are alloy and get misshaped when tightened. A known VW issue..

cheers
