Octavia mk1 central locking issue ?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem that im having with my central locking ?

The problem is this ,when the doors are locked either with the remote or the button on the inside of the drivers door, all of the doors lock but then the passenger door lock pops back up ???

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like mechanism is fubarred. About £100 new from Skoda or take your chance secondhand as I did £40

Try using the key in the passenger door lock. What happens?

Just tried it and the key wont turn in the lock ???

That's why the button is popping up again. There is an open and close switch operated by the key and the open one is continually pressed. You need to remove the lock barrel, which may be broken and turn the plastic disc until the button no longer pops up.

My guess is that you never use that lock, so why not remove the barrel and replace it with a blank.

I had the same issue with my drivers door lock. The key wouldn't turn it. I thought that maybe it was a different barrel. But sprayed some wd40 into it and left overnight and all sorted.

Due to not having time today all i managed to do is free up the key lock on the passenger door,so now i can turn the key in it and it locks all the locks but the passenger door lock still pops back up :wall: .....i will hopefully investigate more tommorrow.

Im a bit confused,i took the door panel off to try and take the lock out so that i could try what rwbaldwin said to do but when i took the black rubber bunge out of the side of the door (which should reveal a hiden screw) there is no screw there ????? so now i cant get the lock out ????

You need a long TX-20 to undo it. In some markets, you need a long M4 spline even for a pre-2000 SLX.

It could be that someone has unscrewed the clamp screw too far and it has fallen down inside the door, or worse, someone has broken off the screw head.

ahh ok mate cheers,i'll have a look tommorrow (if its not raining lol)

As rwbaldwin said, you need a torx t20 bit for screwdriver or socket to unscrew the screw. I just changed both my rear lock mechanisms on my mk1 vRS and providing the front doors are the same you should see a brass looking circle with the t20 screw hole in the middle as pictured below, you'll then need a 12 spline m8 bit to remove the actual lock itself. If you need anymore pics let me know as I took pictures as I stripped and assembled at each stage (rear doors only though). Hope this helps.

Got both rear lock mechanisms from Skospares in Poole Dorset. Breakers for Skodas only and I got a matching pair (left and right off of same car) and a good price at £25 per lock, Skoda wanted £247 for the pair including VAT.

Thanks alot Tony, very useful info and picture there ,i willhave another go at it when it stops raining lol

If you do get chance just don't unscrew the torx screw too far, just keep trying to remove the lock part of the handle after every few turns . The Haynes manual says the screw will start to tighten when It's unscrewed as far as it needs to be but mine didn't. Good luck.

Also if removing the mechanism be sure to use the correct M8 spline drive tool. As mine had been attacked by various implements before my ownership and securing bolts were rounded off. Had to drill out bolts and replace with new ones. A few quid spent on correct tools for the job is essential.
