Possible to add cruise control?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've bought a Fabia VRS Estate and would like to know if it's possible to add cruise control, either through a Skoda dealership (so it doesn't void warranty?) or if there are specialists about who can do this sort of thing?

If it's possible, what sort of costs are we talking about?

Yes you can... Think it's about £300ish though...

Somebody more techie will be here shortly though :)

I've had cruise control fitted on my current OCTY VRS and a previous Audi by a company called Awesome GTI of Manchester. They are recognised as top VAG independant specialists and I would trust them more than any Skoda dealer.

They will fit a new column stalk and using their VAG computer stuff they will reset the car's ecu so that the cruise control is activated. They have done hundreds! It should be under £200.This is the identical procedure to how a Skoda dealer would go about it and there is no question of any effect on the warranty. If you local skoda dealer can do the same for the same price, all well and good ,but get a price from AGTI first so Skoda don't over charge you.

I'm not a techie, but it certainly is. You can get it done from places like JKM or Awesome GTI, or dealerships will do it to. It's best to rimg around the dealers, because I've rung 2 about it so far, one quoted me £380 fitted, and the other £270 fitted. Still going to call a few more. It is possible to do it yourself to.

Mike.

Sorry, hadn't seen what the guy above had said first. Agree with him.

Hi,

Thanks guys, I've contacted Awesome GTI, will await to see what they say :)

Did I hear somewhere that it was a dash out job? Could someone confirm as this has always put me off having it done.

I've read that myself on a few places, I hope it isn't as extreme as that.

Where's Ross when you need him?

If the dash has to be removed then I would think it would be because the wiring loom to the column stalk is connected behind the dash rather than in the steering column itself...this would be daunting for most of us but not for a good technician that's done it before...but it will put the price up!.

Perhaps the OP can let us know Awesome's price,a lot of prices for cc fitment are quoted on their website, but not yet for the Fabia II VRS.

I spoke to Awesome GTI today who want to keep the car for a whole day to have a look at it. The guy I spoke to said they've done it once before, but then it seemed odd to me they needed a whole day to see if it was possible to do it?

He said he believes it's similar to a Seat after market cruise control addition and would be £299 to do it. But I don't fancy being a guinea pig for it.

is it worth giving unit19 a call, they seem to doo lots of things like that to VAG cars

Do you really think it is necessary to have.

Several times i have used it on the same bit of road that i use several times a day.

I know it is a DSG and just keeps to the speed you set it at,

well on this bit of road if i go along it at 65 on the speedo, i can sit getting an average 53 MPG.

Set the cruise control and its down to 50mpg in a couple of miles and the car feels horrible going around corners.

(i lift off the throttle and carry speed, 'my CC does its thing', which is not my thing)

OK others will disagree,

but Cruise Control is not for me really, never has been on any vehicle i have ever had, but with the petrol & DSG i really am not keen.

I do occasionally do long motorway runs (180 miles at a time down the m6 > m1), on such a trip it would be beneficial to have :)

lol, yes i should set it when i am doing that twice a week at least,

but then i have no time for Audis and BM's on my jacksy, so its a game of lets get up the road and no points,

or lets wait and see if something comes through the post.

Doing such a run in July, first such run in the vRS bought on Sunday, so will be interesting :)

I was pleasantly surprised by my drive in to work this morning. Normal journey is about 14 miles, over two thirds of the drive is motorway, the rest urban streets, first 6 miles of the motorway is normally bumper to bumper, max 10-15 miles per hour, it then eventually opens up to a clear(ish) motorway allowing for 60-70mph. Across this journey I was getting 42 mpg. But then I decided to ruin it just before turning in to work and gave the engine a quick burst, heh.

I have a Monte carlo had about a week. Around 2005 I took my then silver 2004 vRS down to a chap near Portsmouth who used to lurk on this site ( are you still here please ? :hi: ) He retro fitted cruise control for me for a very good price, took about an hour or so and he knew his stuff ! I paid him for the new 'stalk' and his time. Just over £100 then !

I have been used to it, and would like it again. Who was this man please, was a regular on here then

Visited 'Awesome GTI' in Irlam, Manchester last week to have cruise control retro fitted on a Fabia 1.2 TSI (2011).

The staff there were fantastic in explaining everything both before and after. The work took around three hours.

Cost - £249 including the dreaded V.A.T.

Only criteria appeared to be that the vehicle had to have the MFA display in the centre of the dash.

Special word of thanks to 'Jim' who carried out the work.

This buisness is highly recommended.

I assume you mean Maxidot?

My supplying dealer told me that it was not possible to add it to my vrs fabia as it was built after April this year. Might anyone know what's changed for him to say this. It does still appear as an option in the accessories brochure.

Hi guys,

The Fabia in question is a late 2011 model.

The MFA display is the green background display as fitted to the SE/SE Plus on the Fabia and not necessarily the more complex 'Maxidot' system.

If you have any questions, please give Awesome a call on 0161 776 0777 and have a chat to any of the helpful staff there.
