Air Con

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My air-con is stuck on recirculate, it showed up faulty on VCDS. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Much appreciate any help.

Cheers,

Rob

C'mon guy's, I need some cheering up after the woeful soccer in Poland..!

Remove the pollen filter element. With the engine running (mind the belts) get an assistant to press and cancel recirc on the control panel whilst you put your hand into the ventilation air inlet passage and gently move the flap.

This will work for a stuck flap. If the gears are crunched or worn, the air flap motor will need changing and the position initialised with VAGCOM.

Have you fixed the built in water leak?

Thanks Roto...

The "water feature" has been taken care of thanks.

Regarding the crunched/broken gears for the flap mechanism, I think they are probably gone alright. All I really want to do is open the flap and leave it open, I've never used the recirc feature in any of my cars over the years. Can you advise me how to do this? Some say it's a dash out job and if so not worth it for me.

Many thanks in advance,

Rob

You can force open the recirc flap through the pollen filter hole. It's just under the filter.

Great, I'll try it as soon as I get a minute.

One more thing you may be able to help me with (apologies for the million questions).....

My electric drivers seat adjustment works fine but the memory settings do not. Also showed up a while ago as a fault. Any fix for this?

Cheers,

Rob

Sorry, no knowledge of electric seats. The electrical details on VAG cars are so flaky I deliberately went for the base model - and even on that, my door locks are intermittent and the (black) CTS has failed - thermal fatigue due to being filled with hard epoxy.

If you want a car with toys which keep working, it has to be Japanese - the Germans just don't understand failure mechanisms such as water ingress, disimilar metals and solder fatigue. I suppose maybe the French are even worse ... (shouldn't be allowed to use electricity).

I agree entirely on the electric seat thing, thing is I'm aiming at getting a newish A4 3.2 Quattro so I'll end up dragging lots of gash electic motors around - just to add to the weight! Back to the original topic, seems like two things happen to these V71 motors, either they end up getting worn plastic bits or the seized bits break the bond between the axle and its wheels. I chanced it and ordered a secondhand one - well you can see if its faulty before you fit it - lucky old me got sent a V68 which is the temperature motor, now that is a nuisance as I fitted a new I bought a few years ago only last but one weekend ago! Once I get the correct motor from the seller, I might be able to work out if the impossible is almost possible (ie replace V71), it was said that V68 replacement was a dash out job - but that went okay after reading that someone on the Passat forum had managed it.

I'm guessing that VCDS reported that V71 motor was faulty?

Thanks for all that lads. I'm not sure what the fault code was on the air con, it's a while ago now.

Thanks again for the input,

Rob

better not mention the Italians then...

Sounds like the climate unit is shot, although if you have other leccy grems it could be your convenience unit is having a wee drink.

Thanks all...

VCDS today showed one of the stepper motors for the air con flaps was faulty/dead.... I'll do a manual fix ( to leave the flap open ) if I can.

Not really bothered about the memory in drivers seat, it only take a few seconds to readjust after the other half uses the car, it would be nice to sort it though as the car is a great example. If anyone has a fix.....

Cheers to all for the help,

Rob

The problem can be, while you can reach the recirculating flap and open it or force it open if the linkage is still intact but no wanting to move, there is a second flap and that one needs to end up in a useful position! For a year or so, I reckon that my second flap is not in a useful position which leads to you being unable to get any air down into the foot wells - and that annoys some passengers. I still need to find out exactly where that second flap is located and if it can be reached without taking a lot of bits off!

Both flaps are connected to flap motor V71.
