Columbus FIRMWARE

I have a program for ripping and converting to mp3, which I put on an SD card and then copied onto HDD. Took a bit of time but all OK. I installed Ver 8 maps and no cameras in POI. I now have to find the right database, and then make up a DB3 file for the columbus. Not sure what the differences are with map version I had and that of VW ver8. They work perfectly and now with the later firmware all appear to be hunkydory

Does the unit now feel faster to use?

Does the unit now feel faster to use?

Not that I have noticed, but I am thinking of upgrading again to 4020 although not sure if its supposed to be any faster. I don't think I really have an issue with speed.

Well Unfortunately I am having to add to this long line of posts. I decided to upgrade the firmware from 3810 to 4020. Well to start with it did not like the DVD. I then made it on a CD and recorded it at only 8X. This was fine and it started loading normally, until it got to 14% of the Applications, whereupon it threw its hands in the air. Tried again, same stopping point. Back to the PC and downloaded the file again, then burnt it on new CD. Guess what, it stops at exactly the same point. So logically I am thinking is the file OK? Is there anyone out there that has successfully loaded 4020; if so, a copy of your file would be appreciated, or if you know of a reason behind this problem, a workaround would also go down well. By the way, although it bombed out, every time I was able to put the 3810 disk back in straight away, and it rebooted fine.

I've just upgraded my 2010 Columbus to the latest 4xxx firmware with no 'problems' from the last non-beta 3xxx version (38xx).

The first download link on the My Gti website no longer works but the second one does.

I burned the ISO to a non-branded CD at 6x (the slowest my burner will go) and it ran in the Columbus without hitch.

Some people on that website have said their instal 'failed' at 29%; well mine 'stalled' at that point but I just left it to get on and it all worked fine. Took about 1 hour in total and it stalled at 29% for more than 5 minutes (I checked it only occasionally so can't be more accurate).

Only problem was that it wiped the maps and my music (but left POI data intact!) so I've had to reinstall these.

So far (I only installed it last night) postcode entry seems quicker, scrolling seems quicker, volume control seems to not go as high as quick, but otherwise I've not yet noticed any other differences.

I'll put other features to the test through the rest of the week and feed back.

It worked in 38xx for me; but 39xx was a beta release so might have been a bug in that version.

Have you looked for the setting in the menu to see it has been disabled? (press 'Setup' > Display > Day/Night and set to automatic.)

4xxx does the same (i.e. automatic if selected).

Destination entry is noticeably quicker in the Nav and there are extra functions that I have yet to explore.

Auto illumination dimming works quite well now. The sensor is a small circle to the right of the microphone button. Put your finger on it and you can see the screen dim slowly.

Compass seems to be exactly the same as before - the big blue circle. (I'm using 7.1 maps, but that shouldn't make any difference as far as I know).

Response time upon inserting SDHC cards seems better, but I never experienced it being too slow.

Start up time from cold is about the same. So no real change.

Some people have commented about the speed limit signs no longer being shown on the display. I didn't notice them this morning but will keep an eye out on the way home.

Hope this helps people make a decision on whether to upgrade or not. For me, the speed up of destination input was worth it, the rest is just niceness.
