Water draining out of door when opened

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have this? I park my Octy on the street outside my house, so it's leaning slightly due to the camber.

If it's been raining, when I open the door on the pavement side, water runs out from a drain hole about halfway along the door. So there must be water sitting in the door somewhere.

Is this normal? It kinda worries me!

AFAIK, you're OK. There's a waterproof panel / membrane thingy inside the body of the door that catches the water that goes down between the bottom of the window and the rubber seal, and keeps it from getting inside the car. If it didn't work like that, you wouldn't be able to have windows that opened AND kept the water out when they were shut (so a bit of a compromise design-wise if you see what I mean). It is, however, something to watch out for if you're doing any mods to the doors (new speakers, electric window motor repair, etc.), as it can be damaged, and then you end up with serious condensation problems inside the car, as happened to my mum.

My furby, does this when I wash the car, it is a pain as after chamois there are still drips down the sill to the floor and if not wiped it leaves a streak :(

At least it is not sitting in the bottom of the door creating rust.

TBH, you're pretty unlikely to have a door rust from the inside out these days, not least because they'll be galvanised on your Octy (I think - or at least painted on both sides). It used to be a problem back in the bad old days when only the metal you could see was painted and so sills door bottoms and wheel arches would rust where water collected next to virgin metal. :thumbdwn: Nowadays rust tends to be more of a problem if you get a deep scratch or stone chip that goes right through to the metal underneath - you'd have to be REALLY unlucky for that to happen on the INSIDE of your door! ;)
