fun in a scrap yard...

Featured Replies

iv seen the ones on ebay but has anyone seen one anywhere else ?

If you're looking for Fun related stuff (bodywork/mechanical) I think Rainbowfore has some spare bits & bobs knocking around, but really dependant on what you need??? He kindly solved a relay problem for me a while back

I know what Ricko's after, and did give an almighty effort to get the part off the scrapper. IIRC he's after the "roll-over hoop". Sadly it is bonded into place with stupid-mental-******-****er-turbo-charged bonding agent. After half an hour (plus several stanley blades and much much swearing) I'd managed to get about 15cm. I think something industrial would be needed, or to cut the bodywork and then hang it in the garage to become an "anger-management" job would be the way foward.

The crate of spares isn't that big now, but I shan't say what's left, otherwise I'll be accused of trying to sell something, again.

Believe me, I did give it a serious go, not just for Ricko, but for the challenge as well. ;) ;)

...but alas it was not to be. If I'd had more/better weaponary, I would indeed have cut the bodywork to have got it out. (Or if I'd managed to get it back to home, it would have stayed longer. It was originally stored in the grounds at work, but the management decided to tart them up and start using the rounds for revenue generation. Sadly a knackered old rusty pickup sitting in the corner, wasn't going to be an attraction ;) ;) ) {It was bought for £150, with windowless truckman, and I did have the intent to restore it to at least a road-going condition. However, I broke it into parts and sold it. So far, parts alone netted a £400 profit. The tailgate was in a seriously very sorry state.......sold for £130! Wheels, door-cards, rear bumper (broken) anything I could strip off easily, all went. Some parts are left, but more for playing with at the moment - the front bumper has holes in it the size of my fist, so I'll be repairing that (maybe some embedded DRLs too) and then letting it go. If I'm happy with the job I done, it may be a swap for the "other" one and I'll do it again.}

One thing did occur to me was that: if the bonding was that much of a b!tch to get apart in the first place.....how was it put together at the factory? And, how could it be replicated "in the home garage"? I did think 'heat' for a while, but was put off by melting the plastic before the bonding would have given up. A similar bonding agent and a bucket of g-clamps might have been the way to re-attach.

From what I saw it was only held on with bonding and (especially across the top seal) using nutz'n'boltz would have interfered with the seal on the moveable wall. :(

Shame, as I would have liked to have completed that challenge :) :)

I'd toyed with the idea of that one when it was in Kent last year, as I had all the parts intact from the scapper to hace made a whole one.............I then thought about how the company would re-act with two nasty looking funs in the grounds ;-)

ha ha ! they would of loved you for mate . we should all chip in and buy it and everone take the parts they need from it ! dibs on the roll-over hoop :giggle:

i still think cutting the back off a nasty one and turning it in to a trailer would look pretty cool being pulled by a fun truck ..

^ Now there's an idea, a Fun pool available for owners to dip into as and when. Just need to get your employer on side Rainbow ;)

if it is bonded on its maybe stuck with the same stuff they bond windscreens in with ?

maybe a friendly windscreen fitter could cut it off with the "cheese wire" tool if you can find one.

Unhelpfully, I am now part of the estate management team, with access to a couple of places I could have stored 1 or 2 trucks. Maybe I'll explore that possibility at some point..........

someone must know of at least one somewhere ?

Ricko old friend, the math isn't in your favour, whichever way you look at it, unfortunately. Essentially (and if howmanyleft.com is to be believed http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/skoda_felicia_fun ) there were 642 in total in the UK. with 482 either taxed(376) or sorn'd (106), that leaves 160 unaccounted for. Given the number of scrapyards in the country and the number of those 160 scrapped are still "intact" and not holding the beans together on Tesco's shelves, you're on some exceptionally long odds :( :( :(

I have to admit the assumption in my equation is that a truck in a scrap yard is not taxed and not sorn'd. If it's sorn'd until destroyed then the equation is worse.....

160 are really holding the beans in Tescos

376 are happily banging round the UK roads (seems most are owned by an "R" though: Rob A, Rob K, Rikko. ;-) ;-)

Less than 105 are in the scrappers. (I say 105 as mine is definately outside on the drive, sorn'd) If 1/2 those are on someone's driveway, you're looking at 50(ish) in scrap yards. There might be 1 or 2 within a 50 mile radius of where you are.

Sorry to be the bearer of not so good news buddy :( :(

^ Makes for interesting reading mate. Most of what I've read up on seems to suggest around 612 in the Uk but figures do vary. Certainly brings the reality home when you consider sourcing from a scrappy etc. Old Skury has two but european based. All the same good luck with this particular venture!

Ah 612....I think that comes from http://www.felicia-f....uk/History.htm

It lists the sales fugures by year:

1998 1999 2000 2001 Total

Worldwide 1205 1703 864 60 4016

Britain 114 332 163 33 612

However, 114+332+163+33= 642 (The worldwide fugure is off too: added together comes to 3832.)

I think given the proximity of 1 and 4 on the keypad, I think it's simply a typo.

If you do a Google search for Skoda Felicia Fun, the club page is the 2nd (after Wikipedia), which is how I think the wrong figure has been perpe****ed.

Of course, I could be wrong.
