Longyear gets his REMAP.... and it's a beauty!

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Some of you may have followed the thread where I had my VRS remapped, with an Elite Remaps map, only to suffer very bad surging, boost stuttering, CEL and ASR lights, MAF fail indications etc.

Two weeks ago I had the stock map put back on. :( ..back to standard power, but other than that, all smoothness returned, and all problems were immediately resolved.

But having had lot's of good successful remaps in the past, I couldn't accept that I was stuck with stock power..............

So after some great help and advice by an absolute gent and really helpful member of this forum ("Black..VRS..1.8T")...... I sourced my own replacement ECU which was from a AUQ engined Leon Cupra, with a 205bhp remap on...... I knew there was still risk involved in this, but I was sure that my original remap problems were as a result of either the Elite map itself, or my ECU being one of those with the base software that seems to cause the surge/stutter once remapped.

I then got "Black..VRS..1.8T" to do an Immo defeat on the new ECU, which he did for a great price and literally next day service :thumbup: .....

I have just put the new ECU on the car today (after some drama, but that's a different thread!)..... and I nervously pulled off to test the new ECU / remap, and to see if I had any boost stutters or surging.

:dance: :dance: :ninja::dance: :dance:

An absolutely perfect, smooth, totally stutter-free drive .......... the car is just a beast now. I can feel that the boost coming in is much more progressive, but by heck it ain't short of power and it just flies..... I think that maybe all the problems with the Elite remap were due to a map that was too aggressive in introducing the boost, causing an overboost cycle. .....or to be fair, maybe it was just that my original ECU was a dodgy stutterty one, and the new one is fine. :) This map just feels so natural and the power delivery is just magical.

So............... I got there in the end!

A huge thanks to "Black..VRS..1.8T", not only for the Immo defeat service, but also all the help in finding the right ECU, serial numbers, advice ........ an absolute top bloke who knows his stuff

:thumbup:

HAPPY DAYS! :rofl:

great news, glad it all got sorted out in the end m8

well done doctor!

time to start enjoying your car! poweeeeeeeeer! Lol :)

A nice smooth map makes all the difference. I had to have four before I got a good 'un. It makes the car far more useable and predictable than a massively peaky map with huge bursts of boost. All you have to do now is enjoy it and look after your licence. :rofl:

My car (or should I say new ECU with remap) has just passed the ultimate test;

My wife (who was dead against me getting any form of remap again after the last experience) has been out in the car all afternoon and has come home with a big grin, saying that she can't deny the car is driving absolutely fantastically now.

:kiss:

It's always better to have approval from the Mrs. It makes life so much quieter. :giggle:

Just an update to say that 3 days in......... the car is running even better!!!

I was a little worried that perhaps some boost stuttering would come in later. I thought the car drove fantastically the minute I put the new ECU+Remap in, but in the last 3 days I've covered about 200 miles, and it's actually running better and better and even smoother every day.

Anyone else who has had bad remap problems with their VRS 1.8T.... if you persist you will get to remap Nirvana! ........

As long as you are sure you have no component faults (as I was having put new N75, DV, and MAF on, and had the full turbo system inspected, and a VAG-COM diagnostics check), I would really recommend people to think about an ECU change.... it's not as expensive as many fear and it has changed my VRS from my nightmare car to my dream car. :thumbup: ....another big shout up for "Black..VRS..1.8T" who got me sorted with the Immo Defeat, and great general advice, with very little in it for himself. B)

Cheers.

Nice to hear you got it sorted mate, they are much better to drive with a proper remap!

Just a note about surging after remaps with dodgy standard maps... Nick at R-Tech found that my standard base map was terrible, so he binned it and uploaded a (150BHP i think?) map from the Golf, which he advised was a much better starting point, and went from there.

I started off with 181BHP & 183LB/FT but the power was all over the place, and came away 210 BHP & 239LB/FT and a lovely, smooth power delivery!

Yeah, there's definately something there about some VRS Mk I ECUs around with either dodgy base software, or dodgy stock maps.

I'm 100% sure I had one.

But now my new ECU and remap (which I don't actually know what brand it is, but it is documented at 205bhp) is as smooth in power delivery as Matt Lucas's heeeeed! :)
