I think its a good engine - not very tuneable, but a good stock engine!

sorry about that, no it's not a V8, it's a 4 clynder

I had a 1.4 16v, for 3 and a bit years, 2001 model, i had no mechanical problems or cosmetic problems with mine at all. i found it quite nippy to drive, however having run, a 1.9 Tdi, for 8 months, and now a vRS for 6 weeks. Ummmmmmmmmm no they are fine, But only did 17,000 miles in my 16v, but no problems.

One of the tensioners on the cam belt went bang - big repair job (in terms of labour, stripping engine down to identify exact fault and then fixing) - thank the lord for warranties

Apart from that, no problems except it's a little thirsty on the oil front
