Any one got a "Recaro Young Sport" child seat?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 3 year old is tall for his age as his head is a bit above the side parts of the current maxi-cosi car seat that should do until he's 4.

I've been looking at the Recaro young sport on-line but have a couple of questions.

I don't trust him yet to use it with the normal 3 point car seat belt so like the fact the seat has it's own in-built straps. Can you remove the padded insert and move the head-rest up and still use the in-built straps.

In case you don't know what I mean, I want to use it for as long as possible using the recaro straps.

Secondly, once you are using it with the 3 point belt. does anything hold the Recaro seat onto the car seat to stop it moving when the child isn'y in it?

Isofix would hold it in situ without the belt on.

We had one, it was older than than the model thats out now, on ours we could remove the padded inserts on the base seat part but not the upright back section, the head rest moved up and it was to small by the age of 4, if we could remove the headrest it would have caused whipl;ash in an accident, you can move the headrest up and use the Recaro straps. Nothing will hold it in if using the car belt, you would have to belt it in.

We purchased this (not cheap) seat thinking we could go from 9 months to 12 years, you may think you will, but we sold ours on when she (average size) was to big for this by 4, its just not big enough, its a great seat between 9months and 4/6 years, due to its weight it left indents into your car seat, this may not worry you.

IMO your in the middle of seat sizes but I think you'd be better going for a boaster seat with the back rest, but these do use the cars seat belt, they are far lighter so can be moved from one car to another easy, and in a few years you can contine to use the base as a booster seat. .

Thanks for replies so far.

I'll need to go and have a look at one somewhere before making any decisions.

I was thinking the seat would do a long while..........decisions decisions

Save your money and buy a Britax, the Recaro child seats are 'Boutique' and are damned expensive yet score very poor in the test results.......safety equipment for your little one....look VERY carefully!

My son (who is small for his age) is only just getting to the point where he will be too big for the Recaro - but he is 12 and very nearly tall enough to (legally) not need a seat or booster.

I've got two - one old style (3 years old) and the other new style (a year old) - great and came apart and can be cleaned too.

suggest looking at one in the shop really. first one was on offer on line via mothercare the second on offer in halfrauds

We have one for our son, but in regard the harness that is built in it is only rated up to a certain weight. Our son is now too heavy to use the harness so is strapped in with the 3 point belt. He loves it and is very comfy, has countless times fallen asleep in it on journeys.

Also check that the seat fits well against the car seats.

You can download a full PDF instruction booklet of the website by the way

Britax, with isofix so it won't move around when it's not being used.

Maxi Cosi all the way.

We upgraded our 3 y.o. daughter from a Tobi to a Ferofix. Doesn't solve the not wanting to use a belt initially, but in our expedience wasn't an issue, but appreciate all kids are different.

The real appeal is that it Iso Fixes to the car so the belt is only concerned with restraining the child. Looks like it will do her for the rest of her days too, bonus! Worth a look.
