MDI connection leads

Featured Replies

Hi all,

having just taken delivery of new Yeti 1.8 TSi 4x4 in Denmark. I note that there are no connection leads for the MDI unit under the main console. (Within which sits an Amundsen unit).

I have a VW Golf back in the UK (reg late 2009), and it came with both iPod and USB iPod connection leads.

Looking online, I see that there are mixed positions about this depending on country, and brochure wording.

So, before I confront the dealer about this (in v. poor Danish):

Q. Should the leads come with the car? Or are they like many things automotive, yet another extra?

TIA.

Peter

MDI is an option on left hand drive Yetis. Sadly not an option on right hand drive Yetis. Ticking this option gives you the connector in the storage area in front of the gear lever - behind a rubber flap. But you will need to buy your own cable from this connector to your phone/mp3 device as far as I know. If you had not ticket this option your Yeti will not have the connector and certainly not the cable.

Johann,

thanks for the reply.

I did order the MDI option from our dealer in Denmark to be factory fitted. And so the Yeti arrived with a MDI port.

The car is left-hand drive.

We have a MDI port, as you correctly say, with a rubber cap.

It seems strange that when we ordered the MDI port as part of the factory order, that Skoda do not supply connection cables with the unit.

It would be like ordering Xenon headlights, and then discovering that you have to buy the bulbs separately.

Or am I the upset child whose mum and dad bought him an electric toy for Christmas, and then forgot that the "batteries weren't included"?

Sounds wrong!

The thing is, I cannot find anywhere in the documentation that says that the MDI unit needs cables to be ordered separately. So I assume they are supposed to come with the unit.

regards

Peter

In comparison, we get an aux socket, but have to get our own lead for that.

As they are not the most expensive item, does it realy matter?

There are a number of possible devices so you choose the device and the appropriate lead?

From Current ETKA

AZO 800 001 IPOD

AZO 800 002 USB

AZO 800 003 Mini USB

AZO 800 004 Jack 3.5mm

All cost about £20 each in the UK before discount

HTH

I think the 500cm Aux lead I bought from EFlog was £3!!

Not comparable, Graham - the MDI leads are multi-cored and enable display of track information and control of the device from the head unit.

Possibly not, but we still have to buy them!
