Festival of Speed Too Expensive?

Featured Replies

When The Times used to offer Friday tickets free of charge, going to the FOS for two days used to be "doable" - free on the Friday and cough up for the Saturday / Sunday at say £30 a ticket.

Last year The Mid Sussex Times was giving free Friday tickets if you bought Saturday which worked out quite well.

Now Lord March has extended things into Thursdays with the "Moving Motor Show", Friday is £35, Saturday is now the same as Sunday @ £55 and that doesn't even include grandstand seats!

Me thinks Lord March has lost sight of the fact that Mr.Average now finds this a bloody expensive thing to attend!

This year its Friday only for me and mine and I will never again fork out almost £200 for two days...........

Cheaper than many football matches, and much cheaper than the British GP.

You may moan, but I bet they still fill the place!!

I'm not complaining as I had free tickets this year for the Saturday. But for someone like me who despises football and everything that goes with it and only like cars and motorsport it's looks like a great day out. This year is my first time but from what others have said I'm seriously thinking of paying next year for more days. Sure it maybe £55 and say the same for a tank of fuel to get there and back it doesn't seem that bad. I don't spend money on following anything else. A Silverstone GP weekend is about £250 now and again I wouldn't mind spending that. Kids these days spend more than that sitting in a muddy field watching bands at a festival

I haven't been before, but it looks like the charges are on a par with the average airshow.

I got two free tickets to the Moving Motor show, courtesy of Dacia (I registered for info on the. Duster), but I am not sure whether I'll go.

Its not clear whether I will have to pay to get in the main gate and the weather looks mega duff for Tbursday .Quiet bonestly the programme, such as it is, looks a bit boring - paying to subsidise a load of toffs and motoring has beens to have a nice day out ?

Ive been quite a few times, but the weather really comes into it. Its the best day ever when the sun is out but if its wet like it was a few years back its the worst day and then your peed off with paying the amount charged. If only you could buy tickets on the day, but then Goodwood wont get the money through the door if its a crap day so that will never happen.

Got home to hear that 1/2 the country was fooded,

Great hot day for the MMS(Dacia tickets for me as well).

track is used for the drives so no racing but I think you need to get there early if you want to get slots.

The main area stands were not too busy and the staff were fresh so helpfull and freindly.

Food and drink very expensive.

It is all spread out over aa large area so be prepared to do some walking.

overall a good day out and a chance to see some new models and get to look at most of the majors cuurent offereings.

Skoda were pushing the citygo,

they had a Superb combo L&K, the brown looks very good

also somthing called the Mission L

stand was gicing out freebees inc water on a mini convayer

If you love cars, the FOS will definitely keep you entertained for an entire day, theres soo much to do. I know plenty of people that used to get tickets for the entire festival, and would spend all their time there.

It is expensive, but its worth every penny IMHO.

Next time i go, i want to go with a wallet full of money, and do all the side activities, like a ride in the Porsche Cayennes and Bowler thingy. They alone are about the same price as the entrance fee, for about 2 minutes, yet look awesome.

But by the same measure, on a good day, they'd lose business, because people wouldn't bother turning up, as they wouldn't want to queue for 2 hours to get into the show.

The queuing for car parking is generally horrendous (as an ex-local, i used to hate goodwood weekend, because chichester was basically a 3 day traffic jam), last thing you want is more queuing.

Thanks for the heads up. Hoping to leave early morning tomorrow to get at the gates by 6.30am
