Wheel Refurb DISGRACE!

Featured Replies

Well done Fubar for sticking with it and dealing rationally. The man has no excuse for being aggressive. Keep us updated with wheel refurb part 2.

Mood is this, should I go back and they are ready and he tries anything stupid like asking for more money they are his and im walking out driving to dealers and buying another and using it with the brand new one I have in boot as spare and get the factory steelie back in there. He can sell them and enjoy the last cent he gets from me in that case though. Apart from the work we bring him we carry his business card and hand at least 3 out a week to our customers and staff with a high recommendation.

Don't do that...

If he tries to charge you, start smll claims proceedings against the guy yourself, and make sure you show whoever it is at your work, the "quality" of work they are capable of.

If you don't mind on PM, can you let me know which company is, so I can avoid them, as the guys attitude ont he phone stinks, no matter what he thought you'd said.

Customer is always right comes to mind. Even if they're wrong, they're right, because they're paying and you need them to be happy and come back again.

Are you in the Netherlands too? I don't see any location listed under name.

I'm not, sorry it's my bad assumption.

Dam I thought there might be a chance of a Dutch Briski meet there for a second!

Didn't pay peanuts though most things are more expensive here in general mechanically related but was more or less same as I would have expected to pay in UK the top job I would normally expect from there.

Ah i just seen you paid £50 a wheel!! feck me thats not peanuts lol apologys.

€50 a wheel so £40.05 each.

Yeah, not noticing you're in the netherlands is probably why it hardly seemed a 'mate's rate' price to us brits!

I've had mixed experiences of wheel refurbishers over the years. And I've now found a couple of places that seem to understand what i want. Interestingly one I used recently asked if I wanted the full front and back refurb, as they are now finding they are being asked to just "tidy up" the fronts, and can do this for less!

Most recently I bought some second hand alloys from a well respected dealer down south, who said they been professionally refurbished. I've delt with him in the past and he's excellent, so thought they'd be fine.

They were dire!

Looked like a simple rattle can job, with none of the curb rash or pitting having been corrected, simply ground back! I pointed this out to him and he said he now had two levels of refurbishment, a "simple tidy up" or a full professional job. I pointed out that he didn't make this clear on his website when I orderd, so he agreed to supply an identical set that had been fully done. When they arrived they had Lepsons quality control labels on them and they were stunning! I doubt they looked as good when new!

So it would seem that some refurbishers & dealers are cutting the cost and quality of their work, and unless you specifically asked for it, you'll get the cheap version!

Yup. They do stunning stuff with wheels.

***UPDATE***

Got wheels back today and they are much much much better by no means like bran new but close enough for me to happily put them back on car. Paint match is more or less perfect inner dish of both now nice and clean and freshly painted and a lot smoother will be putting both on the back of car I think as fronts are still slightly smoother and after wax will aid with the larger amount of brake dust from front end.

I shall post some pics when I get a chance at weekend but pouring down here and thunder today. Bonus was I drove out for the day on Sat just past and with 3 adults in car I got 55.9mpg average with air con on all way and being stuck on motorway in traffic for 3 hours thanks to the winter wheels :D A lot of city driving and rural too not a eco drive in any way!

Soon as one of the alloys gets damaged by a woman I will have all 4 acid dipped and done somewhere I have a little more faith in. The place got the correct paint for the wheels and gave me the rest of the tin. Does seem a really good match when I had them lined up against wall earlier in sun before the heavens opened.

Glad you've got some decent level of success here Fubar even though it shouldn't have required all the hassle.

Mine is between 5 and 10mpg better on winters too

Good news Fubar, well done!

Well........ wheels back on car now and gave her a wee clean & dry too and a bit of wax on wheels. I am still going to get all 4 wheels acid dipped and repainted after this as I am not 110% happy 75% tbh.
