Did an HPI and had strange results.

Featured Replies

Good Evening,

I am hoping to buy a used 2004 VRS and just HPI'ed one on the official HPI site.

It has come up with a result saying the car is 5 speed gearbox rather than 6 and that it has had 1 previous owner before the current.

Is the 5 speed gearbox thing a mistake on HPI's side of things or is something up here?

It is says it is a Mk2, i thought a 2004 VRS was a MK1?

The HPI check confirms it is a Fabia VRS TDI PD 130 so I can't understand it why it says it is 5 speed gearbox.

Also is it common for the result to say it has had 1 previous owner by including the dealership, the guy definitely stated the car was bought new.

Thanks,

Stan

Welcome to this forum. Clearly sometimes people get things wrong - as there.

Not much good paying 30 quid for 3 HPI checks and the information is not even correct.

Thanks for the welcome.

Stan.

Welcome to Briskoda...

Re PO, it is likely the vehicle was a pre reg or demonstrator vehicle before the seller bought it...

With regards to the other questions, can you compare this to the V5? I'm sure they were all 6sp but can't remember for sure...

I've never bothered with an HPI. All Mark 1 Fabia vRSs had 6 speed gearboxes. Definitely a Mark 1 - may be Mark 1 facelift which is causing the confusion? Possibly a pre-reg though I don't recall seeing pre-reg ones on sale at that time so demonstrator a more likely option?

The hpi i did on mine said it was a 5 speed and i think the dvla has it down as a 5 speed too lol.

Main things to look at are the miles and if its been bumped or outstanding finance. Also you get the aviva 7 day ins if you call them up with the number.

Thats main reason i did hpi check lol

Both my se and my previous vrs showed up as 5 speed on hpi checks!

Does make you wonder that if they can get simple things like that wrong then what else could they miss?

I've just done an HPI (via the RAC) on an 07 VRS I'm buying and it also states 5 speed gearbox!

does anyone know if your able to get free hpi checks?
