Skoda Superb.

A warning to those who travel the lower A1 regularly. I was travelling south bound at a legal speed but unfortunately a man in a silver Vectra was not, it was then I noticed the lights in the grill of the boring brown superb (no offence to brown superb owners as they are lovley cars) over take from behind me with a copper behind the wheel. I had never even noticed the car which is strange for me, hence the cunning use of brown, if it had been a vrs my suspicions would have been aroused. The suburb then shot of after the vectra and tailed it without lights on, I can only imagine the driver had a nasty surprise a few moments later from the racing grandad that he couldnt get rid of behind him. 5 mins later I saw a silver suburb parked up with a traffic cop using the radar gun. Seems superbs are the new sneeky car of choice for cops.

Cambs police have been using Superbs for a while. They have a 3.6 v6 and a couple of others.

Not a police car but I passed a silver Superb Twindoor the other day with aftermarket strip DRLs and a blue light bar on the roof, reckoned it must have been Fire Service Car??

Wonder if they are completely standard or tweaked?

The VRS petrols are remapped I gather from a friend in one of the police forces but you cannot do that with the 3.6 litre Superb and get much of a hike in performance ie 30%, like you do with the turbos.

Clearly quick in standard form, especially in the wet with the 4 wheel drive but fuel consumption and range has always put me off even if I ignore the fuel costs, even with a fuel card it would be noticably more than the 2 litre with a tweak which is the way most will go. Presumably the 4 wheel drive was key with them having so much weight in the back with the equipment.

From what I understand they no longer remap the cars. If they need something faster they buy something faster.

Judging by the speed it caught up with the vectra I don't think it was the diesel cr 170.

A police friend.still maintains the pd 170 vrs are remapped but they are getting on now so they may now buy faster stuff in the first place. V6 superb defiantly fits that bill and it blends in.

V6 may struggle in a high speed pursuit - would need to fill up pretty often.

I do not know if the V6 is just limited to 155 mph or needs delimiting. Genuine 160 mph would be about right for the power output of 260 hp.

But a range of less than 400 miles or so?

Seen the cops in them down Cornwall too.

You get buy with filling them up, we had the vectra vrx and that was silly on the miles, a full tank less than 100 miles!!!!
