1.2 or 1.4 and 2 or 3 - EDIT - deposit down on 1.4 16V '3' - EDIT - now own 1.4 16V '3'

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've currently got a 1.4 8v MPI Classic, have had it since 2006 and it ticked over 129,000 last week. It cost me a bundle to get it through MOT last August and I decided that I'd treat myself to a newer Fabia this year.

I love it to bits and I wish I could shrink it and keep it in a jam jar as it looks like nobody wants it and I've been to a few garages and they said they'd PX it for £200 and it would probably be scrapped. Such a shame, I wish I was a mechanic as I would probably run it into the ground!

So anyway the point of this post...

I've been following the: http://www.briskoda....dit-bought-one/ thread with interest...

I do motorway miles quite a bit and lots of country roads with steep hills... I had my heart set on another 1.4 engined car... and have been looking out for those in the '3' trim level over the last few weeks.

Is the '3' trim level worth is, what is your opinion? I've seen a very nice one very local to me and it's only trim level '2'... and it's a 1.4

However...

Should I be on the lookout for 1.2s.... I like moving along briskly... but I'm guessing even the 1.2s will feel brisk compared to my current 1.4 8v....

I'm sure you are all bored of these questions, but feel free to tell me to sod off and use the search :-)

thanks

Martin

Is the TSi out of reach?

Hi,

my sons in the process of P/X 'ing his 2003 Classic HTP 54 for a 59 plate Fabia 1 HTP 70, as likewise he's been getting a few bills of late, albeit niff naff stuff related to age. Believe theres less maintenance costs associated with the 1.2 as well as general lower running costs.

We couldn't quite stretch to the 6k required to get an early face lift 'S' trim, as they are cheaper still to run being euro 5 rather than euro 4 compliance.

Regards a 2 or a 3 trim level, then I would go 2 myself, purely as the ride is a little firm on the 16" alloys of the 3 or Elegance; my wife has one of the latter and we find the ride is better when running on 15" winter tyres.

It is really, unless I can get one for £6-8k ... I don't really want to finance... if the economy looked in better shape I may have considered going brand or near new, but it seems if you can just keep your job and salary at status quo you are doing well!

Is the TSI as easy to maintain as the 1.2 and 1.4? Just curious

Sorry for being a doofus, but what is the early 'S' trim, is this Sport?

Thanks for the info on the 16" alloys. I am going to look at one tomorrow which is a '3' trim level so will feel for firmness.

Being a software developer I love gadgets which is why the '3' trim leaps out, as some seem to have cruise control and other goodies..

Thanks

Martin

The 'S' trim is equivalent to the level 1 trim (and Classic before that), 2 is now SE and 3 Elegance.

wow that is a good price. Shame it's so far away. But too late now anyway.

I've been out and tried a few out, I went out with an open mind on the '3' trim thanks to The Plumber, and was thinking about the ride on those 16"... but weird thing... I preferred it to the '2' trim ride...

I had a go in a few 1.2 (the 60 hp is woeful!) and the 1.2 80 was pretty close to the 1.4... but I preferred the 1.4, it felt more smooth at high speed. The economy isn't as great, but hopefully as this one has cruise control I will be able to control my go fast pedal a little better on the long commutes.

Also, the maxidot on the dash and climate control air con... mmmmmmmm

Its a shame I didn't like the '2' better, as I could walk to the garage with that one on sale, and now I find myself placing a deposit on one 22 miles away!

If the better half agrees when she sees it tomorrow afternoon, I shall be PXing my old X reg 1.4MPI and walking away a proud owner of a Fabia 1.4 16V '3'

Happy days.... I hope the briskoda sticker comes off the window ok, its been on there since 2006 :-O

Glad to hear you have found a car that suites your needs; enjoy the new motor :)

well, I pick the car up tomorrow... nervous excitement of handing over a wad of cash for a new toy.

Epic fail on one of the briskoda stickers though, they've taken some punishment since 2006 in the rear window... one came apart as I tried to get it off.

Do these still get produced?
