Recaro mk4's need a little advice...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My friend bought himself Recaros from a mk4 for his polo 6N2 which required chopping and changing to the rails.

He has now got a set of leather GTi seats so he is selling the Recaros for £100 to me.

I will need to put them back on to the mk4 bases. How easy will that be? And how could I retain the ability to pull them forward? They are from the 3 door and being able to move them forward makes cleaning so much easier.

I'll be honest...

...You could have bought some recaro's for £100 from a 5-door with no need for you to do anything other than pull olds out and stick new ones in... It's what I did.

Gonna set you back a fair bit more to get them sorted mate.

Really where? You can get recarco look alikes for about that money, but the genuine mk4 recaros run about £250

Hmmm. Actually, my bad. I got lookalikes.

I just don't see the benefit of having to un-modify a modified set of seats - you're gonna need subframes which means either buying 2 more seats or cannibalising your existing seats which is a bit of a gamble.

For the associated cost and hassle you'd probably be better saving your cash and just buying recaros from a 5-door I would have thought.

I was thinking about going down the scrappy and buying a set of mk4 seats for £50 so all in it would be £150 and I can keep my current seats up in the loft.

I love the look of the vRS seats but I wish they where more supportive.

Might be worth seeing how much you can get for them as a already modified set for polo, lupo or fabia. Might be worth more to someone than a set of standard recaro seats?

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

They arn't the best fabricated seats you have ever seen.

Are they leather?

If so, worth it.

If not, don't even bother. There are tonnes of VW Recaros on eBay that'll cost you about the same as half a dozen tomatoes.

If they are leather and you get bored with trying to sort them out, I'll gladly take them off your hands...

Are the bases in Recaros not specific to them? Make them sit different or heated looms etc? I know from my Corrado they were all different.

Most OE Recaro's have a seat base that is also the subframe. On S3 Recaro's etc however the subframes bolt to the seat, so they can be swapped easily - the subframes however are not cheap!
