Rattling noise when putting foot down!!

Featured Replies

Got a new 05 reg Fabia vRS and it seems to have developed this noise when i put my foot down at 2000 rpm and the noise stops at just over 3000 rpm, is it something around the turbo, or the turbo it self?? The cars only done 2500 miles. Any ideas as to what it is anyone??

could it be the dual mass fly wheel shuddering due to the torgue (cant spell) of accelerating at low revs

you shouldnt put your foot down from 2000 rpm in to a higher gear, it will destroy the dual mass flywheel.

so your saying that i can't ever put my foot down in say 3rd, thats when the sound is at its worst really???

I get this too at low revs. I mostly try to ignore it as I'm not in a rush to go back to the dealer...

Are you sure it's not the seatbelt buckle vibrating against the centre console. Mine was doing it under load at lowish revs. It was quite loud and difficult to pinpoint. Get your car to make the noise, hold the buckle and try again. It can be cured with a rubber pad between the two surfaces.

My 05 plater doesn't do that - get it to the dealer. I sometimes pull from 1500rpm and there's no problem.

Unless it's just that horrible diseasel engine note ;)

Is your car remapped?

Even standard the Fabia has a lot of torque for such a small car. And it is a bit worse with a remap. I too get a 'rattle' when accelerating hard at 1500rpm. I would describe this more as a resonant vibration rather than a rattle. I think I remember a motoring magazine commenting upon this and they sited the cause as the fly wheel.

Driving style can also play quite a big part. There is an interesting thread regarding driving above 2000rpm. In there it also strongly suggests progressve throttle use. I have played about with this some what over the past week or so and find even when accelerating below 2000rpm if you use progressive throttle then the vibration is minimised and the car also performs better.

I would try that before going to the dealer if it is the same vibration as I experience.
