Ok, as a family we have a very nice 2006 Fabia 1.9TDI Elegance with just 40,000 miles and a FSH, No issues at all, we love it. I have a BMW 316TI Compact 2002, which i use to get to work when not on my motorbike (during winter etc). I fancy better fuel economy and have seen a 2007 Fabia II 1.9TDI PD3 (same spec as my elegance i think ?). It has done 34,000 miles.

So, i am happy with my Mk1 fabia, are there any issues with the Mk2 i should know about ? I know this new one has a DPF filter but i have a great auto diagnostic mechanic (very good friend) who says there is software to get rid of it and physically remove it from the car, i don't like these DPF things, he has had loads of cars in with major issues regarding DPF filters by owners who just '' puttle ' about and don't do the miles they demand.

So apart from that.... anything i need to know.

not sure about mk2 but if you search dpf removal there is a thread from a taxi driver who has done it and reported back

Cheers pal, i made a mistake the car is a 2007 not 2008, i understand its the same engine as my Mk 1 but with a DPF added, i like my engine but don't want it '' poluted '' by Euro emissions crap. Ta.

im the same, my old mk1 octy was infected with eu. egr valve off when i handed over money for thge car, cat off, etc

cars run better when they arent strangled.

if the one in the prospective car is 1.9 tdi pd 105 bhp i believe this to be a super engine

I have a 2008 Roomster 1.9 tdi 105bhp and it doesn't have a DPF so perhaps the Fabia doesn't have one either?

Hudson, the Mk2's are all good. The 1.9PD TDI does not have a DPF. So relax! The only Fabia with the PD engine that did have one was the 1422cc 3 cylinder Greenline mk1 from 2008 onwards. So unless it's some sort of hybrid, you won't have one. Do the usual checks on the car but I doubt you will find anything wrong with it. Make sure the clutch is smooth. The car has a DMF (dual mass flywheel) and at high mileage these can cause some judder if they have been abused. 34k of course is only just getting run in for the 1.9 engine. Normally, they don't give any problems. If you buy it, the only other issue is to make sure you use the correct oil in the engine. This is critical on the PD's as using just any ordinary fully synthetic oil will wreck the camshaft in a very short space of time. That's expensive to put right. So do make sure it has a service history from a Skoda or VW dealer or a VAG specialist. Back street garages often overlook the correct oil thing and put in what they think is ok instead of the correct stuff. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Fabia mk 2 1.9 TDI seems to come with a solid flywheel... Also, there might be a DPF in it, I think the engine code BLS has DPF and BSW does not (I'm not 100% certain). Here in Finland you could have ordered a Fabia 1.9 with a DPF but as it cost extra (and lowered your mpg) nobody bothered to do so :)

Yes...it's vital to use the right stuff. Several manufactures make the correct grade and spec. It's the specification of the oil that's really important as it will have the right additives. PD engines require the oil to have an extreme pressure agent in them. This is because the engine camshaft drives the 'unitary injector pumps'. Each cylinder has it's own very high pressure injection pump and injector. This means the camshaft has extra work to do. Without the correct oil the engine self destructs in just a few thousand miles. I replaced the camshaft and cylinder head on a PD that had covered just 9k with the wrong oil in it. However, if you use the correct oil the engine will last almost forever. One of the cheapest oils and one of the best is VW's own brand. It is Quantum Platignum Gold 5-30 and it MUST meet at least VW/Skoda 505.01 standard. I think they do various grades and specs. Check your user manual when you have purchased the car and it will tell you what oil to use.

Early PD 1.9's had the single flywheel fitted. From about 2008 many had the DMF's. I've just noticed your post says it's a 2007 model you are going to look at. That may have the single flywheel in it. Is it better, not really as it can vibrate more as folk are saying. But the DMF does protect your gearbox much better and the indications are that a DMF can add 50-60k to your gearbox output main shaft bearings in terms of gearbox life.

What oil should you recommend for -20 celsius degree?

it needs to be either vw spec 505.01 (for without DPF only) or 507 spec (for with or without DPF)
