New Clio Sport

Featured Replies

Has a 1.6 turbo engine (as found in the Nissan Juke), a 6 speed manual and option of DSG type system and will only come as a 5 door.

Thoughts?

No photos and figures, no thoughts sorry!

It should be very very good, i cant imagine them turning out a bad one.

Never going to be a budget buy tho.

The Twin Clutch they have tried in the Bigger Engined Renaults up to now seem to be good.

Their autoboxes with smaller cars and engines were never going to be used.

Isn't that a 3-door or my eyes deceive me?

Anyway, as with all Renault Sport models, I expect it to be focused a lot more towards track use than everyday comfort. Not bad as long as you know what you're after so that you don't swear everytime you go over a pothole. But I don't think it will attract such a different byuer's group than the old ones, which is probably not the typical vRS driver...

PS. Ah, probably the rear door handles are positioned a la 147 style..

Yep - mentioned in the wording of the article...

That is indeed the sneak release pictures of an ugly 3 door Clio & not yet an ugly 5 door or 5 door Clio sport.

EDIT, (or as just said a wrapped 3 door that will make you think 'not as ugly as i thought it would be!!)

I like with cars that unless you drive passed shops looking in the window you cant see what you are driving in or what you look like.

If i could, i dont think i would drive a Fabia.

Not looked at the link but if there is one thing the clio lacked IMO it was midrange punch. everything else was perfect.

Now its got a turbo motor it'll have a good 50lbft more torque in the midrange.

Looks for the world a 5 door to me, George...the wrap has lifted where the rear door is :giggle:

If its a 3 door, then access to the back will be pretty lousy with doors that short!

Fair comment about the midrange punch, although not really noticed on the ph1's as they were only 1080kg. Gonna have to check these out when they are available.

Ye, when i read what you said i agreed in my EDIt,

just typed 3 instead of 5 sorry. I was looking on my phone and never really saw it right.

Yeah didn't have a link I was on my phone. Definitely a 5 door only. Power should be 200bhp+. It will handle perfectly for a FWD and RenaultSport have never made a bad one. It should have more torque but the old Clios were just fun to revs the nuts off. They handled and carried speed so well you could get away with not having mid range punch. But it wasn't slow by any means. They've already nailed the handling and if they get it around 220bhp it will beat pretty much every hot hatch in the sector.

And with it being a turbo it'll be much more tuneable hopefully :D

and with a dual clutch system, fast...

how much though?

VAT is off the vRS again...

I looked for that seemed to exclude vrs

Omg I see now....might get a new car

yeah, I was in the garage today, salesman confirmed VAT off the fabia vRS again...

also no plans for vRS citigo, and there will definatley be a vRS rapid :)

Skoda....VAG build quality

Renault....French build quality

(...and we've recently parted with a Clio RS 200)

That's all I've got to say...

And here's a better shot:

Looks like its lost the "F1" style diffuser on the front, I think i prefer the old one!

FGS....

Renault, Citroen and Peugeot have all improved massivly in recent years

So the Old "Its French..so must be crap" statements are borne out of ignorance I'm afraid in the same way Skoda jibes of 10 years ago were and still are at times

I'd have to agree on that. I find it even more ironic when it's said by fellow skoda owners who on the other side, can't believe the badge snobbery towards Skodas lol... A mirror is always a useful tool... :giggle:

Surely important in 'XV140' post is the part " (... and we've recently parted with a Clio RS 200)"

Not like it is Badge snobbery if using his recent Experience!

You know I nearly shopped my fabia in for a clio rs 200. In glad I didn't tbh, a couple of my friends have and have had them, i didn't think they were all that! especially when compared to how the owners were making out.

Anyone got the YouTube link for the clio driver who wears the gloves and apparently goes out to smash a vrs mk1? Haha! Gold!

I've been to a few Renaults here and I can't really say I find their quality much different than the Skodas so for me there's nothing really between the two. On the other side, the Fabia isn't the more solid built hot hatch out there either. There are rattles from all over the place and as much as I enjoy the car for what it is and what it costed, I have to admit I've been into much better built cars. That been said I don't regret buying it whatsoever etc. but just because you have a certain car that doesn't mean you can't acknowledge some of its faults.

PS. George I want to be clear on this, I'm not talking about your car of course. I'm sure you 'll go out for a little run and swear by the bible your vRS is perfect in any way and doesn't rattle at all. I was talking about the rest of us who bought their cars from the pile of "rattling" ones. :D

the clio looks very nice but i bet itll be too expensive for poor old me

as for badge snobbery, we have a 308 and a fabia and imho the fabia is much better build quality. im not saying the fabia is excellent but the 308 is worse

newbie69,

you see you should not make up your own stories.

Never said the car was perfect or even of good build quality, just good value for the performance.

Read my posts as written, not as you seem to read them.

,

my Gearbox does not rattle, my mechanicals did not rattle they were tight and checked and fine..

The interior was getting rattely as the weather warmed, but then i carry stuff in the car, use it as a van with no rear seats, so no problem.

The car was stripped out at the week end and then thrashed.

It is like a bag of nails today, rattles and creaks everywhere,

so just trying to check everything out to day and looking at what is getting left on the car as it is away to get a cage fitted.

Glass is getting replaced to lighten as the cage will be adding weight.

New car just ordered for road use.

Love the Fabia vRS, but its not my 'Dresses & going out car'.

I have also owned French cars, and actually enjoyed them.
