I was reading yesterday that on the mk5 golf, if you have maxidot and have the RNS510, you can change cd's/media songs using the toggle button on the wiper stalk,

Does anyone know if this will work or can be enabled on the octavia?

I have tried it on mine and no joy, anybody have this?

I had both Columbus and Maxidot retro fitted to my 06 vRS and could use the rocker switch to go up and down tracks on a CD or within a media file. I fitted the Columbus and vrStu fitted the Maxidot and showed me that working. Not sure if it was specific coding, but if it was it will be on his website www.octavia-vrs.com

I think this is one of those, "only avaiable in certain instaces" things.

Mine was a very early vRS, registered 1st week of Jan 06, and as I said it worked fine. Ben at Shark even fitted a Dension unit for me and it worked fine for that too. I thought part of the issue depended on which Columbus you fitted. Mine was a genuine Octy one, 1Z unit, and an early revision too. I understood that 3T0 ones from the Superb were defiantly not compatable with the wiper stalk rocker switch feature as they used a different MFSW and different protocol. I seem to remember threads by vrscarl and Ben from Shark to that effect.

IIRC There was also a thread about with some postulation that as the newer Columbus came along, they could be "flashed/changed" from the 3T0 to 1Z's or something like that ( sorry I'm not that technical!), but I don't know if that can be done or if it fixes the issue.

I'd guess that the newer Columbus being sold now from the FL Octy will still have this issue as they now use BAP protocol. So perhaps it's getting a Columbus of a specific age/revision to get this feature? Again there were threads on this that long standing members started like Gaff & vrStu, but these threads seem to have disappeared as the forum has evolved, or they are too old to find in a search.

VRStu retrofitted a Maxidot to my old 2005 (55) reg Octavia Elegance, whilst he was at it he correctly coded the Columbus and CAN gateway after I had retrofitted a columbus. Before he did the coding the rocker control did not work, however after he was done the rocker control went up/down CD tracks. Depending on source, it also went up/down radio stations if the radio was selected.

It works on a factory fit Columbus, but it can't be activated on a retrofit. Sorry!
