Superb 1.9TDI Elegance 2007 - Worth Buying ?

Featured Replies

I normally hang out on the Mk 1 fabia side of things as my wife and I have a 1.9TDI elegance Fabia but i have been considering changing my BMW 316ti compact for another fabia..... until i noticed that a similar mileage example in the Superb is about the same price ! How is that possible ? The fabia elegance has a nice spec but nothing like the 2007 Superb Elegance. The car i have seen is the 115 BHP version. I have seen 2.5V6 TDI versions for just the same sort of money as the 1.9TDI, is the Superb the missing bargain that no one knows about ? But it does have one issue.......... its fitted with a twin electric towbar (not keen), not happy with a car that has been pulling like a mule for years.

So just why is a car with so much spec so cheap when compared to an equivelant Fabia ? And is it a good car regarding the drive and fuel economy. Thanks.

Oh its done just over 53,000 miles with full history.

If its an elegance 1.9 then it will be the 130bhp. The 115 wasnt available in elegance spec. Fantastic cars. Just make sure there is no water ingress problems.

I have read about that, it could be difficult to do when looking at the car on an owners drive or a car dealership floor. The tow bar addition is not a nice thing, the garage has called me back to say it has not had its cambelt done and the clutch and flywheel was replaced a few months ago..... the clutch ! I wonder if that is to do with all the caravan towing it has done.... i may look elsewhere for one that has not been used as a pack mule.

TBH if the clutch has been done then I would not worry too much, at worst they say double the mileage for something fitted with a towbar, so even at 100K the engine is just about run in.

Get the cambelt done (Skoda say every 4 years, irrespective of mileage) and check out the water ingress, the easiest way to do this is to remove the rubber seal at the back of the engine bay and lift up the scuttle panel, ANY water in here by the battery then walk away .... it would need to be ultra cheap, as in £hundreds rather than £thousands for me to buy a MKI Superb that has knowingly leaked due to the water ingress issue.

The engine to avoid at all costs is the 2.0 140PD.

Cheers for that, i had head about the 2.0TDI issues so was going to steer clear. Thanks for the info, my wife still wants me to get another Fabia (2007 new shape) but for the price i am not too sure given all the goodies i can get with the Superb for the same money. Thanks.

Only VW UK says that as a ploy to get more money from servicing, Skoda does not say that in any other country. Get belt done at specified mileage, if in any doubt inspect it first rather than replace (belt inspections are listed in service schedule anyway).

+1 on the rest of advice

Are you sure? As I remember seeing a few of these over the past few years in 115bhp 1.9TDi Elegance guise - I very nearly purchased one new. Not as common as the 1.9TDi 130 I grant you, or the awful 2.0TDi 140 unit in the MK1 Superb's.

I swapped my mk1 Furby VRS for an edition 100 1.9tdi. Best move I made. I love my Superb - it's great!

I agree with that - I think with the run out of the pre-facelift models (which this car is, as it's a 2007 car) the 1.9 130 was dropped in favour of the 115, as 130bhp was too close to the 140bhp of the new 2.0 engine.

PS - if the OP uses the back seats at all, get a Superb!

These Superb's seem to be great value and in the 1.9 guise they don't drink too much.

There is a older edition 100 1.9 with 30k sheffield. £6k

Tempted but a bit too far(100+miles) for me to go look,

I had a look at one in Fareham last week while down at Goodwood, don't bother with that one, alloys paint and seat all badly worn.

If you can find a good one in elegnce definately worth conidering unless you need hatch convenience

Hello,

In belgium there were different versions. First the pre facelift model had 130 and 100bhp until 2005. Then they had the 1.9 replaced to the 1.9TDI with 105bhp untill 2007 and then in 2007 it was again replaced with 115bhp 1.9TDI.

I have still the 105bhp tdi in my 2007 elegance tdi. The 115bhp version is exactly the same engine as the older audi A4 from 2003, maybe modified.

regards

What a maze of engines !!!! Not too bothered about the BHP as i will be having it re-maped anyway.

If you do buy it and they need to change the belt make sure they change the water pump to a metal one
