By better i mean for the same spec of car (Elegance) and the same engine (1.9TDI), Were there lots of improvement in the Mk2 to make it worth spending the extra and instead of getting an 07 go for an early 08 etc. Also can anybody tell me if the stereo systems in both cars were any better than the dire Symphony system i have in my 06 plated Fabia Elagance.... truly awful.

In my opinion the two main differences (which make the MK2 better) are:

1. There is a Combi available (I guess that around 75% of all Superbs sold are combi's, so I'm not alone here).

2. The engine is now transversely mounted, therefore the bonnet is shorter and the interior space has grown.

Depends on what you think as being better.

A CR engine delivers it's power like a petrol, very linear and un PD like, for me this is not as good, despite it being quieter (and thirstier).

The 'carpets' in the MKII are crap felt like material.

The twin hatch is hardly a looker.

However having said all that my combi is IMO much better than my MKI (130PD Comfort spec), BUT I would not of bought the twin hatch, which is why I waited for the combi to come out.

Despite all that, is my MKII better than my MKI? ...... OH YES.

Downsides of the Mk2 Elegance versus my Mk1 Elegance are the crap leather interior, it looks very cheap compared to the Mk1 and the terrible leg room for the driver in the Mk2. Big upside is no water ingress problems on the Mk2. Overall, I must say I preferred my Mk1 2.5 TDi comfort wise but it was on borrowed time for electrical gremlins hence the change to my Mk2 4x4 170CR.

I have had both mk1 and 2 L&K's and I much prefer the comfort of the mk2, though I agree that the leather does not appear to be as good as quality as the mk1 in my opinion.
