Anyone know what the issue is with retro fitting maxi dot to an octy fl?

Featured Replies

As title really.... I'm looking at retro fitting Maxidot to my 2011 fl octy vrs. I know it's been done, but I keep reading that there can be adverse affects. Anyone know what they are? I was hoping it was a case of plugging it in and coding, but perhaps not?

should make no difference, as long as it is coded and immo data transfered.

I supplied a new maxidot cluster to a member on here and he had no issues when he got the dealer to fit

He was lucky I can't get a dealer to go any where near one!!

One Briskodian searched around for dealers that would do the swap (even though it is just a question of following the instructions for a faulty cluster swap) and ended up traveling quite a distance to get it fitted.

He went to Manchester IIRC, but I can't remember which dealer.

it can be done, but on the FL it has to be done at a main dealer as it needs an online connection to Skoda HQ to enable the replacement cluster. On the pre FL it simply required coding in VCDS, but the FL dash cluster has very different internals.

Mannyo - the pre-FL Maxidot only needs VCDS to retrofit? Is that correct?

Only asking as I'd been thinking about a retrofit but was put off by the limited functionality and also by having to pay the dealer lots of money.

If I can do it myself with VCDS I might start looking for a dash pod again...

You won't be able to do it yourself with vag-com

You will need VAG commander or similar to read your immo dump. And as your car is 2007 it will need to be a genuine vag commander not the fake ones on ebay

Oh well!

My fl is off to my local dealer to have this attempted on Thursday. They are not massively enthusiastic but have said they will give it a go!

On my list of mods in the future, one of the Techs at Fareham Sparshatts is a mate of a mate, so hoping that he will give it a go. Should just be a straightforward cluster replacement. You are just using a different version with MaxiDot.

Got quoted nearly 600 quid for part today from main dealer, oh well that will be on the back burner for a bit!!!

You should be able to get it cheaper here http://www.skodateile.cz but their online shop is down at the moment. I believe some members have ordered from them before and they speak English if you email them.

Yep, mine was under £200, brand new from Skodateile.

Car is currently in the dealers so fingers crossed!

I got a maxidot retrofitted in my fl, it's not a big deal ... Just ask the dealer to follow the same procedure they would as if replacing a faulty cluster ...

Yep. All went well! The only thing I didn't have was the convenience menu, but a tweak to the central electrics code and it has appeared. Very pleased.
