Calling all you new owners...how many miles on collection?

Featured Replies

On collection of a new Skoda, how many miles should I expect to see on the clock? As far as I can see it'll be: Out of the factory > Onto the transporter > Off the transporter and onto the docks > Onto the boat > Off the boat and onto the docks > Onto the transporter > Off the transporter and into the dealership. So...3 or 4 miles? I cant see the dealership needing to road test the car during the PDI, so is that it do you think?

I've had between 3 and 12 miles on the clock when ive picked new cars up. If its higher the dealers usually just reset it from what one of them told me! They can only do this if the mileage is below a certain amount though ie 50 miles.

7 for me. I believe it does need road testing for the PDI.

Mine had about 5 or 6 miles and yes I would agree as part of the PDI it would need to be road tested.

7 for me. There are specific tests to perform listed in the Elsawin service manuals. Not got them with me at the moment.

+1

By the time mine got to me it had nearly 80 on - although it was delivered from London upto the Midlands.

If you are collecting a brand new car from the dealership ie not delivered, I'd expect to see less than 15 miles. On my last car (Volvo) it had zero as they showed me that you can drive them in service mode and the odometer doesn't register they were quite open about this. If they weren't I'd be a little suspicious if the car had zero miles on it.

I have had a few brand new cars and am always a little trepidatious when I first drive them that something might not be tightened up properly or has been assembled incorrectly, but it does make me feel a little confident that it has been driven a little to make sure that everything is as it should be (not that it ever has been).

The road test is part of the PDI and it is the fourth from last in a three page check list, well it was for me as I asked for a copy of the PDI.

In case anyone is interested:

Road test

The following must be assessed within the scope of a test drive according to the vehicle equipment and the available possibilities (city/country, weather)

– Inspect engine for performance, misfiring, idling behaviour, acceleration and starting behaviour.

– Foot and handbrake: Functional test (jerking, squeaking, pulling to one side) ABS operation. Brake pedal-idle travel: max. 1/3 of pedal travel.

– Inspect the lever position and smooth operation of the gearshifts.

– Inspect the driving behaviour of the clutch as well as the pedal force and smell.

– Inspect automatic gearbox: Selector lever position, selector lever lock, shifting behaviour, display indication in dash panel insert.

– Inspect steering clearance of the vehicle standing on its wheels, with engine running by turning the steering wheel one way and then the other (wheels straight ahead). There must be no play on the steering.

– Inspecting the sun roof operation.

– Pay attention to pulling and to the straigt ahead position of the steering wheel during driving.

– Inspect the imbalance of the wheels, drive shafts and propshafts.

– Inspecting functions: Heating, air conditioning, ventilation, instruments and warning lights, mirror adjustment.

– Inspect engine, gearbox, axles, steering, brakes, clutch, bodywork for abnormal noises.

6 miles on mine at collection

My old '03 Octavia had 18 miles when I collected it from the dealers, which I thought seemed quite high. The Yeti just had 7.

7 for me.

My two mark II Superbs had 12 and 14 respectively.

only 5 miles on mine.

I had 152 miles on mine, delivered from a garage 149 miles away.

I once saw one on 999997. .

I once saw one on 999997. .

Was it counting down? What happens at zero?! lol

One of my new cars had 8 on it.

My wife had a new car with 5 on it.

Bit of a far cry from the 47,500 that's on my current car :)

6 for me.

7 on my Superb on collection from the dealer, 9 on my wife's Fabia... but then it was delivered to our door (we live two miles from our dealer ;) )

I got 7km on mine when i picked mine up today...

5 miles on my new Superb that we collected two weeks ago.

I do recall hearing that a dealer can put up to 1000 miles on a car and still call it new, as is the case with pre-registered sales. I may be mistaken though.

I do hope you are!!!!!!

As pre registered is obviously not new that would be naughty.
