skoda fabia 1.2 htp

Featured Replies

Hi all im new here!

Just bought a 2010 skoda fabia 1.2 htp

Basically just wondering on fuel economy

I seem to only be able to get about 350 miles on a Full tank.

Any help?

Thanks

Welcome!

What kind of driving conditions and speeds? HTP's are capable of 50mpg+ so either you're in town all the time or you're at 80 on the motorway :)

Alot of town driving, but I never go above 70...

Starting to think its the fuel I use...

Town driving is never good for economy TBH, 35mpg in town isn't bad at all.

How long are your local trips in town.?.

If it takes 10- 15 miles to get up to running temp before you are getting 40-50 mpg,

its not much use if you only go 10 miles on a town journey and stop and later 10 miles back.

Thats maybe only going to give 30mpg.

Then if out of town is short trips you are still not getting your best MPG.

Are your tyre pressures correct and the car serviced with a clean air filter?

I cant see that your petrol will change anything even if supermarket, you are fine with 95 RON minimum and do not need 97,98 or 99 RON.

Sainsbury's Super 97 RON is costing about the same as others 95 RON so nothing to lose in trying it.

i have a 2009 http... i also get 35 ish, but im always in town also, i have found using tesco supreme stuff, i have been getting 42 mpg,

be for buy the car i was also expect high 40's.

Hi and welcome,

Also depends if your 2010 car is a pre face lift (MY10) or the latest shape with the new front end (MY11 on). The engines in the newer design conform to Euro V emission regs and are supposedly 2-3 mpg more economical; road tax is £20 cheaper too.

My son has just bought a December 09 HTP 12v Fabia 1, he would have liked the newer shape for the above reasons but the cheapest we could find within within 100 miles of here, would have cost another 1k :S

I do have another question tho...my car hasnt got a glove box flap, as it was a optional extra right?

Could I get one fitted? Also how much?

Thanks

Yeah optional extra... And I don't think you can get one fitted.

I have got loads of things planned for it tho haha!

hi mate i also get around 350 m on a full tank and thats just driving around the town

  • 5 years later...

50-60 mph on rural roads going 25 mile round journey to work and i get about 400 out of a tank

Interesting I have brought a Fabia 1.2 for what I hoped was a reasonable MPG as I use it to commute from Portsmouth to Littlehampton for work. I suppose about 70% of the journey is dual carriageway and I drive about 60mph @3000rpm.  I did 336miles from full to light on which is about 38mpg.

Its only done just over 26500 miles and had a full service done on it, including spark plugs and coil packs ( 1 started playing up a day after the service had been done so replaced them all). Hoping that the longer commute run I will be doing will gradually improve it. Only other issue had was an engine management light on. Took it to a local Skoda garage and they told me it seemed to be the camshaft sensor. They cleared it but not come back. If it does its about an hour to replace.

Are you sure they said cam sensor, not crank sensor? Cam sensor could be done in 5 minutes. Crank sensor is a lot less accessible, but I'd still feel 'done'  if a Skoda garage charged an hour's labour to change one.

We have a previous generation (2005) 1.2 htp, the 12-valve 64bhp one, and it has an average mpg of 41, calculated brim to brim from purchase at 98k miles to now at 151-ish, on a very varied driving diet, more short journeys than long.

Is yours the 60 or 70 bhp variant?  Latter is probably better on a run.

... As for the glovebox, its a full dash replacement if you want to upgrade. Great if you can do it yourself and find a cheap used part, otherwise, not worth the reddies. Sorry!

Wino,

According to diagnostic tests you are rights it's Camshaft Pos Sender Circuit Range/Performance  (implausible signal intermittent )

As they clearing and not reappeared as yet am going to drive it as normal.

Think it might just have been a one off as it's being driven a bit more now.

Well interestingly just filled the tank up after using shell ultimate last week and I got just over 41mpg doing the same journey.

Let us see what standard shell fuel does for the same journey this week?

I think you'd need to use the new fuel for a few tankfuls/journeys first, to get proper average, then go to old fuel and repeat the exercise. Then factor in the extra cost as its around ten pence per litre dearer. If miles are still up and you get the benefit of a cleaner engine and it works out well, thats great. I think it will even out a bit though!

I have  Greenline 1.4 diesel and that returns much more on fast roads. Hit 70 on motorway and I'll get upper 60 MPG, stay to around 55-60, it'll go up to 70-ish but I'd rather get to the destination earlier then save a few pence. Lower, town trips with students, around 40MPG, perhaps a bit less with new learners/manoeuvres.

I used to use Tesco fuel and it 1. made my car run lumpy 2. less efficient. I then switched it for shell v-power to clean out the engine and then just normal basic shell fuel and I noticed a increase in miles, around 25-30 miles a tank and also my car ran a lot smoother! So it doesn't surprise me your petrol gaining a couple mpg's on shell fuel, It worked out even though you spend say the price of a coffee extra a tank you do gain a good amount of miles extra a tank.

If it is Tesco momentum 99 Ron petrol costing £2.25 a tank more than Tesco unleaded 95 Ron that can get 2 or 3 miles a gallon more by using then Shell V-Power 99 nitro + for another  225 pence over Tesco momentum is highly unlikely get 4-6 miles a gallon extra.  So the cheaper higher octane does the job.

Got me ultimates and v powers mixed up.

Usually use morrisons but as the shell is on route it is easier. The v power was 127.9 a ltr so nearly a tenner more to fill the tank. The standard shell is 117.9 a ltr. Will just gave to wait and se what happens.

So a fiver difference if 50 litres at 10 pence a litre more expensive. 45 litres would be 450 pence more....

If you need to replace the cam sensor its literally a 30 second job. It's right on top of the engine and one bolt holds it on.
