2.0 tfsi use oil?

Featured Replies

I've been looking for a new car and had my heart set on the Leon Cupra 240, but have just found that a lot of people have complained about them using a lot of oil, circa 1litre per 1000 miles. Has anyone else heard of this issue? Puts me off if I'm being honest.

I've seen threads on Audi forums and vw forums, doesnt seem right to me.

We've got a few customers at work that tell us of oil usage to that extent, mainly in the octavias tho.

Did they sort it on later cars?

What you do is find an honest seller that does not have an oil usage problem and buy that one.

But, then you need to ask, 'if his is a good one, why is he letting it go?'

Is not life just a lottery, but life is sometimes too short and he who hesitates is lost.

It's a bit random but some of them do use that much oil and some much more. Mine uses quite a bit less, prob about 1l per 5k miles.

You're never really going to know but the same can be said of any car.

Mine is a 2008 with 34k on the clock & it uses less than a 1 litre tub of oil between services (10k).

Do like Land Rover owners who have constant oil changes as the Black Gold drips out you just keep topping up on a regular basis and thats nice fresh oil. (maybe!)

With a performance model, just keep putting in the best quality .5 litre per 1000 miles if it needs it.

Drop what oil is in at the service interval to do a filter change, filter that oil and replace in the car,

and resume the Constant topping up.

At least you will be checking your oil level often and know what the level should be.

Its amazing how many on forums including this one are constantly mentioning High Oil usage and then are surprised that the 'Oil warning light' shows.

Even fail to check that the garage has actually filled to the correct level at a service, and never read how the Dipstick level should be read and if the oil is checked after the oil has been taken up to full running temperature,

or checked cold.

Breath....

& now go do an oil & filter change on a Land Rover. (Even got a new crush washer!!)

My 2006 TFSI with 52k on it does seem to use oil but not at an alarming rate. Probably 1/3 litre every few thousand miles.. I can live with that for now.

my 2006 Leon FR TFSI uses about 1 litre every 1200 or so miles, as far as i know its fairly normal for those engines.

Got to say this is putting me off too, after selling my mk1 Octy vRS (and wishing I didn't) and buying an E90 BMW I was seriously considering viewing a '06 plate TFSI vRS this weekend.

Don't RX8's, whose engines are meant to burn oil, use about 1litre per 1k miles?!

My RX-8 used about 3 litres of oil over the ~6,000 miles/5months I owned it. Still got around 1/3 of the bottle left in the garage.

Works out about 500ml per 1k miles (obviously!). That injects oil as part of the combustion sequence, like a 2 stroke to lubricate the tips of the rotor against the block of the engine.. Considering how badly ripped the RX-8 is for that, it's pretty terrible for this VAG engine to be as bad!
