octavia vrs poss probs

Featured Replies

As new to owning a octavia vrs i am not sure if this problem is normal, on cold start up and wen driving on light throttle the car seems to shut off quite abrubtly as if turbo is switched off. it gets better wen engine warms up, no engine warning light on and no fault codes stored (checked with bosch kts). it feels as if the throttle is shut off and then back on again it will also seem to accelerate without actually pressing throttle further down the rev range seems to be around 1500rpm to 2500rpm any clues/info would be appreciated. appart from this little quirk i love the car its a 54plate 1.8turbo with 104k on the clock, full service history

probably egr valve, or throttle body, give both a clean and see what the crack is

Agree with the throttle body clean, also, check your breather hoses for holes/splits especially the y pipe to the cambox. Has the car had its coil recall done?.

coil recall how would i find out if it has and must be out of warranty at 54plate or is there an extension on this part/s

Sounds like it needs a throttle body clean. Mine was once the same lol

Just go to your local Skoda dealer, give them your reg, and ask them to check if the recall has been done on your vehicle. This is a recall rather than a warranty repair so time does not apply. My one was done in october last year at 92k and my car is 53 plate. This is all done foc, so worth checking even if it is not the primary fault. If you put coil recall in the search on hear there are several threads, one of which goes to about 10 pages on it.

Hope it helps

had this issue at 60k; a Throttle Body clean sorted it. problem is back at 76k, but learned that this is just the way these cars behave when cold.

Think most of us will agree this is nothing to worry about

Thats not how they should behave, the revs will be slightly higher at idle when cold but should drive as normal. If its lurching or whatever, something is wrong.

had similar throttle response on my 02 octy vrs recently (check engine light illuminated) on checking with VCDS was engine lean condition, cleared light, reset throttle bodies and it was back on again soon. turned out to be perished inlet hose, sorted now, christ what a difference !

This might sound like a stupid suggestion, but have a look at how old the battery is and if it's fairly old try replacing it.

I had a similar problem with the car being really spluttery for the first few minutes after a cold start on my car (53 reg vrs) for the last couple of years. A few weeks ago, the (original 8 year old!) battery died so I had to replace it. Immediately after replacing the battery, the spluttering problem went away completely and I can now drive off completely normally after a cold start. Just like it was when it was new back in 2003!

My theory is that with an old battery, which has a high internal resistance, the load of the air con compressors, fans heated mirrors etc coming on immediately after the car starts was pulling the battery voltage down briefly below a level where something involved in the running of the car was getting upset. I've no idea what this could be - possibly the secondary air pump, or even something in the ignition or fuel delivery systems, but as the problem has been solved it doesn't really matter.

I did think at first that this could also be a sign of a problem with the alternator, but as I've now done nearly a month of daily short trips and the battery is still charged I don't think it can be.

I get a kind of Thump sound when switching off the engine from the throttle body. How do you clean the TB, can it be done by me! Is there any DIY to clean the TB. Any sprays etc.

Carb cleaner aerosol.

update regarding this fault, the throttle response from cold is still an issue even after cleaning throttle body. now esp light comes on goes into limp mode resets after turning ignition off but warning triangle illuminates which resets after turning ignition on/off 5 times fault codes relate to throttle valve position sensor 2. and in abs/esp can related fault from engine control module. reset light and carried out a throttle relearn with kts machine. is likely a throttle body fault due to this problem previous stated as can hold throttle steady and car will accellerate quite abrubtley and then shut off without moving pedal. really annoying

if its not calibrating then it probably needs replacing. Have you calibrated it? sorry re read and you set it up.

May be the TPS mate
