Wireless webcam

Featured Replies

Looking at a wireless webcam to use as a burgular alarm in effect. My thoughts are if you hear an alarm going off in the street how many people actually take notice of it apart from saying "That bl00dy alarm is going off again" ? Well this webcam can be placed anywhere in the house and streams live images to the internet from behind a firewall and it is also WEP and password encrpyted. It can also mail you when the motion sensor is triggered.

Link for cam

So can anyone recomend another make or somewhere I can find it cheaper apart from EBAY ?

Thanks Ivan

Wait to you see the prices of IP cameras.;)

Will allow you to have remote access via a mobile phone...primarily targetted to be used for baby camera monitors but I thought you can use it as security device.

Adrian,

I thought this was an IP webcam  It has a webserver built in. IP camera's start from

I have one of these at home so my parents can have a sneaky peak at the kids every once in a while. Not a bad picture at all considering the price.

Presumably you have some kind of port forwarding set up through your firewall to get over the NAT issue, Q?

Yes, my firewall has a NAT rule to the camera. The camera itself supports authentication so they are the only ones that are able to connect to it. And I only enable the firewall rule on agreed times, just to make sure they're not spying on us ;)

Sorry Adrian, as far as I am aware it is an IP cam but a wireless one. You configure an open port on the wireless firewall/hub I have and it you then setup authetication within the Cam itself.

This is handy cause I can position the camera wherever I want as long as I have a wireless signal in the area thumbup:

As far as I am aware you would need to setup port forwarding to the webcam from the firewall though.

Yes it does have that ability but I already have a webcam and a mic which I use for web chats through MSN currently. Picture is a little jerky but sound is spot on.

I am actually buying this unit with a business venture in mind TBH. I need to be 100% up on this unit before I propose an idea that could be a nice little earner

Yes could be an issue but I suspect there might be a plugin transformer that can be "Adjusted" to suit the situation. :D
