Tablet time

Featured Replies

MS Office for iPad is due to be released in November, One Note is already available as a taster for the full suite. We are running a test deployment at work, a number of staff have iPads that connect wirelessly to our network and initial feedback is good. You can email directly from one note to microsoft exchange, thus getting your documents to / from the ipad is a simple email.

Don't like the iTune, don't like the fact that there is no USB (or similar) port to connect to external storage, and certainly don't like the way Apple controls every thing you do.

Will have a close look at the Nexus 7 but suspect I may end up waiting till I can get a play with a proper W8 tablet.

Fair reasons. I have nothing against Android at all, the newest version is running very slickly it has to be said!

You are going to be lucky to find an Android/W8 tablet with a conventional USB port now though, all the latest ones don't have them! Some still have a MicroSD slot, but even that is not a given any more. We only have one with a USB and it's a piece-of-crap Archos.

I'd hang on if you can to see what Win8 is going to do for tablets.

Some of the Samsung Android phones SII, SIII and Note and most of their Tablets can support USB hosting with a simple adapter plug which is about £15 as seen here. I'm sure that other brands can do similar.

Much as I hate anything 'i' out of principle, the iPad is the best tablet without question.

But I think they're a gimmick with a few more years to run then something new with be the toy du jour.

Flexible roll out screen would be my bet. Tablet in a tube.

Agree but the one thing, as per the OP too, that lets it down in my book is having to do everything through app store or iTunes. No sideloading apps/games/music.

Phil

True but they get away with it so wait for evey other company try to do the same and lock you in.

Even Win8 will be coming with an app store.

There are some advantages to that. The Android market place is riddled with malware, there are some in the app store but not nearly as much.

Really appreciate the replies to my OP. I don't need to do much work on the machine other that very occupationally access Spread sheets or Word documents. I have my work laptop but can'y use it to access the internet or personal emails when away from home.

Thanks again but why the F**k to people keep bringing iPads into the thread when the OP clearly states I don't like them!!!

Think its fairly obvious if you read through the thread. I have had loads of help over the years from Briskodians on a range of subjects but do find it annoying when people frequently try to promote their pet tech/car/tyre/turbo or whatever down your throat when the original request has specifically excluded it

p.s.

not intending to offend anyone, just having a grump!

Its just a discussion. :giggle: Its bound to come up in a topic about tablets due to being the most successful one, clearly something is good about them.

Plus people were just trying to ascertain what it was you didn't like about the tablet, often its just the usual "blah blah Apple sux, all iSheep, we hate Apple".

2 iPads in the household, however I wouldnt buy another now Android has improved so much and Windows slates are incoming.

Yep, preordered one yesterday for SWMBO's christmas present! Not fussed about stuff to fill it with as they can be side-loaded!

I had a W7 notebook & an Android tablet, given it was 2 units & 2 different OS's I found the windows notebook slow, & the upgradeability of the android device severely lacking so decided it was time to look at a single device.

Decided to look at the MacBook & the Asus equivalent, Had a play with both units before making what is an expensive purchase.

My personal preference ended up being a MacBook Air, the W7 software on the Asus had issues opening & playing the demo video, the macbook had no such issues.

I have found that battery life on the macbook for constant internet use is just on 9 hrs, Bluetooth use will drop this to approx 6 hrs.

I bought the 13.3" screen, but having had this unit for just over 3 months, for what I use this for - Internet, Music, some video I beleive that the 11" would have sufficed.

SWMBO has a nexus 7 and it's great. Better spec than the kindle but more expensive.

Woops ,wrong sort of tablet. Missus makes me some- she uses sugar + condensed milk and other things. Boil till it sets in a plate of water, pour into a tray ,let set and enjoy. Much nicer than a kindle, and a lot cheaper.
