Samsung Galaxy S3

Featured Replies

Just wondering what problems if any, anyone has had when trying to connect the samsung galaxy s3, to their columbus unit, where a bluetooth unit 5NO O35 730D is fitted, and what are their thoughts on this phone, or do you have any opinions on a better upgrade around, my current phone is a nokia N8.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a 2011 superb elegance with premium bluetooth and my s3 paired with it but only in hands free protocol, rsap not supported on s3 so does not make use external antenna or download phone book to car.

I have found an app called "A2DP volume" which when started allows download of contacts and more use of facilities but still no external antenna.

I have not had any reception problems with the phone mounted on a w/screen suction mount.

The s3 also connects as a media device and music, podcasts etc can be played through the columbus audio system.

switch on s3 blue tooth before starting car and the phone pairs automatically (after intiall first time pairing)

Columbus does not display text messages in maxidot display as it did with the HTC HD2 though.

over on xda developers forum there is a thread on rsap protocol enablement for the s3 but requires "rooting"... an exercise which must be carried out with extreme care as it is possible to "brick" your phone and also may void guarantee.

perhaps if enough people bombard samsung with requests this may be enabled with future updates.

Hope this helps

It's actually an issue with the version of Android running on the SIII -Ice Cream Sandwich or version 4. You'll have the same issue with any device running it be that HTC, LG, Sony or whatever. Unfortunately Google chose to drop rSAP out of the latest version whereas it was included before this.

Don't have any experience with VW group Bluetooth (I have a Parrot kit) so can't comment on that bit.

I do have a Samsung SIII though and it's fantastic.

With regards to rooting etc. best not be a guinea pig. Use a tried and tested method that other people have had success with on that model I haven't rooted my SIII as I don't need to. However I have done it on previous phones without any issues, just do the research and don't rush.

Breaking news: it looks like rsap will return in Amdroid 4.0.4, see www.android-rsap.com/
