Maximum Wheel Size

Featured Replies

Good afternoon!

First post in this forum, so excuse any omissions or muck-ups...

I was just curious as to the maximum tyre/alloy size I can get under my Fabia Elegance Estate (06).

Currently, I have 195 x 50 x 15" 's fitted with a mate giving me some (free) 225 x 40 x 18" 's. I have the PCD 5 x 100 to 5 x 120 adaptors needed, as they're ex Beemer wheels.

I understand it's quite a step up from 15" to 18", but it'd be a shame to pass up the opportunity.

I am open to the idea of changing springs, but would rather not roll the arches unless it is absolutely necessary.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

not sure TBH but I THINK I read on here somewhere that 17" was about the max, but that would all depend on the sidewall height. Youl'd have VERY low profile tyre on, ride would be like a train on concrete and I think the speedo/ odometer would be out aswell. I'm sure someone else will have a better answer, but if it were me, I'd go 16" max and drop it by 30mm. Good luck.

225/40/18s will not fit a Fabia. They will rub on the near nearside arch, and your speedo will be massively out.

Use this handy calculator to calculate the correct size for wheel size changes.

To fit 18s you'd need something like 215/30/18.

30 profile tyres would be awful to drive on, if you can even get them.

Thanks for the help guys. Nice calculator link softscoop.

Might keep the 18's for my sisters 1 series then.

18s will fit depending on tyre size and offset, i dont think ud get a low enough offset, look on the back of the wheels and see how wide the wheel is (18x??) and what the offset is (et??) and post them up

30 profiles would be abit harsh but ud get use to it, do u have coilovers or lowering springs or standard suspension?

Handling will be awful!!

aye but at least it wont go into limp mode :giggle:

The width is 225mm, and I'd have to grab the wheel specs for the et. Everything on the car is currently standard as I'm finishing off a mini project before I start doing anything to the Fabia.

From what you guys are saying, I think I'll just stick with what I've got until I can get hold of some 16's.

Looking at 225/30-35/18 tyre prices, it's really not worth it (especially with the handling/ride change!).

Thanks for the help guys.

See my Post re Tyre sizes etc.....

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217351-oem-tyre-sizes-and-alternatives/

Also bare in mind that the wheels will weigh alot more causing the steering to vibrate more and the excess width will cause tramlining......Also as the centre line of the width of the wheel will be greater than 5mm away from what the OEM was this will affet the steering geometry....to a point that it can't be adjusted........and will affect bump-steer etc!
