Leaking boot, help needed

Featured Replies

Hello all

My Octy has developed a boot leak that appears to be coming from the left hand pillar

Comes from here

then drips on to here

I have checked the drain hoses from the sunroof but despite poring lots of water through them from the tray around the sunroof I could not get it to leak. The water appears to be getting in somewhere else but where?

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Does your rear screen washer work properly....i.e. does the water spray work?

May be pipe for this has come off and is leaking into the boot....seem to remember someone had this before.

I had this last week, it was soaked near to my CD changer, the pipe had come off behind the carpet above the wheelarch, accessed via the boot.

My washer hose came off and killed the CD changer, luckly it was still under warranty. It's a stupid design coz there is a joint directly above the changer in the pillar. DOH !

Now I'm worried - I just installed a PC in there!!

Hmm, how easy is it to get apart? I think I might have to take some preventative measures!

This thread is worth reading.

Its not the rear washer, the leak is on the wrong side of the car for a start. And water is clear and does not smell of screen wash, the washer works fine. I am starting to wonder if it is getting in through the mounting points for the roof rails.

scratch that i have just spent half an hour spraying water onto the various bits of the car but I can't replicate the leak. I have checked the attatchment points for the rear screen wash and they are all sound.

My Octavia RS when new had a leak from left hand hinge area of roof in my case it was dripping through were it could escape from where the left hand roof trim joins the centre trim above the window. Mine dripped onto the seats and caused staining - seats were replaced under warranty - after best but failed attempts by dealer to seal a roof joint (visable in hinge opening)where the hinge exits it was cured by a bodyshop removing paint from joint resealing and respraying - hatch had to be removed to allow repair.

I found it hard to reproduce but having a hose played on the area for some time the water seemed to build up and start escaping but not instantly apearing. In my case the interior was getting quite sodden after a constant drip every 10 seconds or so.

Do you have a sunroof?

Do you have a sunroof?
Are there drain tubes for a sunroof and, if so, where are they routed?

Yeah you are on the right track Denis, i think thats what the tubes are in the picture.

If thats the case it could be a blocked drain, split or ill fitting pipe or maybe just condensation.
