VRS clutch failed :(

Featured Replies

clutch failed today on wifes 53 reg vrs, 92 k miles (original clutch just failed) nice smell of burning friction lining and smoke coming up from back of engine according to wife

where is best place to get a standard clutch, car is standard no mods goes fast enough as is

fairly sure DMF is foo bar as well,

started stripping the car ready to confirm which bits i need for certain

got to do front pads and discs as well by the look of things, about 4mm left on the pads and nice lip(3-4 mm ) on edge of discs

also strip and clean EGR (got exhaust check light on) , and do that wire on front of gearbox to alternator at same time

anything else to check at same time as it is stripped and up on stands

thanks

Euro car parts is probs your best bet for a cheap clutch, they often have deals on to.

If the clutch has gone you may as well replace the lot,

I got mine from GSF. It was a sachs clutch and dmf kit,

I also got a LUK concentric slave cylinder.

Big Gray on here is the guy to speak to. He did me a great

price, He works in a GSF branch and Briskodians have a

nice discount there. If you try other branches you may have issues

but if Big Gray takes your order at his branch you'll be fine.

I'm not going to say the price he gave me but it was very

competetive. I paid a further £200 odd elsewhere for fitting.

Mine went at 70 something K. Clutch was fine but DMF was

goosed on mine. (Remap and poor driving :( )

Drop him a PM and see if he can help.

Darkside are supposed to be quite good and that kits seems like a very good price IMO.

EGR valve removed and cleaned, exhaust port on bottom was solid and the valve stuck

dug all the rubbish out with a small screwdriver and clean with carb cleaner etc, all seems to move freely now, just got to get the clutch replaced and see if it has cleared the eml

quick question if the battery is disconnected for a few days is there any start up procedure, seem to remeber sometihng on here about start the car without touching anything then let it idle for about 40 minutes so it relearns all the values etc

Nah, mines been flat before after leaving interior lights on and going

on holiday. Just took it off, charged it and put it back and got on with it.

It learns as you drive anyway.

right, gearrbox is out :)

clutch removed (well cooked, friction material starting to crack and dissintegrate), white film all over the insides of the bell housing and starter ring

i am assuming the DMF is not ment to have any play, can move the two halves about 3-4cm at the edge and about 5mm of play rocking the two halves, i am assuming this means foo bar'ed

passenger side console bush badly cracked, i have 2 bushes i bought for my roomster 1.9tdi (before i wrote it off :( ) part numbers 1K0 407 183 are these the same as for mk1 vrs look the same size, but are the newer uprated X design
