Am I using Fuelly wrong?

Featured Replies

I've been using Fuelly for a few months now and I'm sure I'm using it wrong as the last Fuel Up showed a UK average of 18.6 MPG, and now today it only shows 30.9 MPG.

This is with 10-20% city driving as I mainly use the car for long journeys to family, days out, etc. rather than commuting. And I use it for shopping at weekends, but that's it.

So am I adding something incorrectly because the trip computer consistently gives me a reading between 36-58 mpg depending on where I've been.

The last one was best when I drove to Suffolk and back one weekend at a steady 60ish and the trip showed an average of 54 mpg. When I added the next Fuel Up it gave me an average of 18.6 MPG :o

Any advice appreciated

Got a link to your account out of interest?

Are you also doing full fills, or do you only do partial fills? There is a box to tick if you only do a partial fill. If you don't check it, and just put x amount of litres, it'll get it wrong.

I've been doing a mix of fuel ups and ticking the box correctly. I think I've worked it out though. My UK average is 30.9 mpg because of that weird 18 mpg anomaly, but my last reading was 44.6 mpg, which makes more sense. Still not very good though

EDIT: Out of interest, don't you do the city/highway % thing? And how do you get the Fuelly signature? Cheers

I don't do the city/highway % thing because I can't be bothered figuring out what I've done :D I do about 700 miles a week and it'd be a PITA to calculate it.

It's also slightly easier for me to calculate because I always do full fuel ups. If you only do a partial fuel up when there was some left in the tank, it's inaccurate, because it assumes your tank is completely empty when you fill up. That could explain your anomaly.

For the signature, go onto the fuel up screen for the car, and at the very bottom next to [View all Fuel Ups] is a small shield. Click that and it takes you to the page where you can choose your type of sig.

I fill up max everytime and had had no issues. Thanks for the sig panel tip!

I've only recently signed up to Fuelly and my first log didn't make any sense :wonder: - then I went back and re-read the FAQ's about making it make sense for us in the UK. Now it seems to be in order, although there's a bit of disparity between what my car says (41mpg) and what Fuelly says (37.7mpg).

In most cases the trip computer is wrong.

Mine has been 2mpg low every tank apart from the latest one where it was spot on. Most trip computers are optimistic from what I've seen, however I do the odd bit of Eco driving which is why my computer might be wrong.

Have you made sure you have slected uk mpg? There is an option for US or UK Mpg. How do I get a large fuelly icon? When I copied and pasted the larger one Briskoda said it was too big?!

That is normal, the OBC is not 100% accurate. For me, Fuelly is usually about 2mpg lower than the average in the car says.

I seem to be lucky- my car is pessimistic. Every tank I've filled has been at least 2mpg in my favour...
