Banishing the fried egg! But Sidelight... Eh?

Featured Replies

As the 'fried egg' look has never been high in appeal for me I decided to swap out the normal indicators for Philips Silvervision!

At the same time I wanted to make the sidelights more of a suitable match to the Xenons. The OEM look is... well lacking IMHO.

After some research, and new Osram Extreme bulbs in hand, I started the job.

Took the whole headlight unit out, not bad.

Changed the indicators, easy.

Took the sidelights out, hmm...

Now the new ones are just the glass 'bulb' with metal contacts coming out the bottom.

The old ones have this metal 'holder'? attached.

The bulb didn't appear to move in the holder, so I stopped, prior to breaking something and entering the world of "Oh F**K!".

Anyone got the gen to let me finish the job? Or have I unknowingly bought the wrong bloody bulbs?

Matt.

P.S. Silvervision look great.

I did the silver indicator upgrade front and back, does make a nice difference.

The description of the sidelights is correct for a W5W bulb. (As a reference, the ones in the boot are the same.) They are usually a tight fit in the holders. I've always found a "wiggle" as you pull the bulb tends to help.

The hardest part for me was pressing the clips to pull them out, once out I smashed the clips off so removing them is a 2 min job not an hour, and bloody knuckles :wall:

You need a pair of Extra Long Snipe nose Pliers
