Fuelly - accurate?

Featured Replies

Hi, guys,

On the first tank in my new Superb Elegance 1.8TSi, I travelled 318.8 miles on 9.573 gallons which works out as 33.30mpg. Obviously this isn't right down to the bottom of the tank, but I wanted to get a reading before I fitted a new K&N filter.

The economy is a touch disappointing, but that's not my point: Fuelly INSISTS that the figure is 40mpg. I enter the figures over and over again and it still comes up with the same answer. I've contacted them to see if I've done something wrong, but there's been no reply as yet. I've done (and re-done) this very carefully, so I can't see an error on my part.

What do you guys think? Do all the Fuelly users on here take their readings at face value? Do you cross-check it against your own calculator? I'm intrigued. And baffled.

Mine works OK. Have you got all the settings correct? US/UK Gallons?

Yeah, the settings are correct. It seems to be using a mis-calculated figure based on LITRES, not gallons. I've actually used 43.46 litres, but Fuelly is insisting it's 36.24. The actual cost was 1.276/litre, but Fuelly is insisting it's 1.53. I cannot get it to change these figures because the "Fuel-Up" page is in gallons - that's what I entered. Litres don't come into it at all until Fuelly does its calculations. Still baffled.

I've sorted it. BIZARRELY, I had to select "US" in the top left-hand corner, not "UK". I guess that's what they call counter-intuitive.

43.46/36.24 = ukgallons/usgallons = 4.545/3.785

Personally, I prefer Spiritmonitor.de for fuel consumption readings, rather than Fuelly.

For a start, Spiritmonitor.de has a lot more similiar cars with which to compare your own car's economy.
