Rebadged as vRS now as well - after my awful performance at the Pod last week people might start believing the SDI badge

I really like the lights... How did you do it? Spray it internally or on the exterior, any advice would be much appreciated

Outside. On my first attempt I tried to spray a coat thick enough to go glossly, because that's how you avoid the matte look to the finish. But this was too dark, and I didn't mask the reflector either - legally speaking you're not allowed to tint the reflector at all...

I tried to lighten it a bit with cellulose thinners but ended up stripping it all off and starting again - cellulose thinners can be used to slowly lighten it it you let it dry fully for a couple of days first, but since I'd only sprayed it an hour or so earlier I had to remove it all and start again. A note here - use lint-free cloth if you have to clean it off at all, as the spray becomes very sticky as you try to remove it...

Second time around, I masked the reflector first, then applied one light coat of tint spray, let it dry, removed the masking tape, and applied a couple of coats of clear acrylic laquer over the top, let it dry, then polished it up with some wax - that way it's only a subtle tint but it's still nice and shiny

Oh yeah, I took the lamp units off the car to do it - only 4 nuts on each one so it's not hard, but a bit fiddly - 8mm ratchet spanner comes in handy :D

How long did you let it dry for? My only concern is getting the two lights to the same darkness

Cheers :)

About 20 mins per coat then about 2 hours before polishing them up and putting them back on the car. If you apply it to both lamps at the same time, and do thin coats, it's not hard to get the same colour.

PS drying times depend on weather - nice and sunny & warm here today so coats were touch dry in less than 5 mins, but left it about 20 per coat to be safe. On a minging day the drying times will naturally be longer.

Cheers

I cant stop looking at the piccie, that is a fantastic improvement, not too dark, doesnt look chav at all, but gets rid of the lipstick red colour letting the rear end down :(

Nice one

What would be really good is if someone made a clear, lightly smoked LED cluster... so it wouldn't have to be red anywhere except the reflector...
