Exhaust advice

Featured Replies

Just a quick question really im planning on cutting my cat and silence and backbox out and replacing with straight

Pipe.

Is there a cat sensor? And will doing this make the eml come on?

Whats the ways around it?

No cat sensor afaik

Interested in this thread as this is what I am planning to do!

No sensors

no engine light either.. no problems apart from MOT time so be sure 2 keep ur cat so u can fit it once a year (jus cut either side + use exhaust sleeves instead of welding and u can fit it back whenever )... ;-)

His got a MK1 vrs so wont need to

new MOT rules bud.. it will easily pass emissions but its now a fail to not have a cat fitted where a cat was fitted from factory ;-).. rules changed in may 2012 m8

Mine sailed through its MOT in June without a cat :-)

so will mine when its due (im an MOT tester lol).. ;-).. but if u go by the book it is now a fail :-(

Wanna test mine for me? ;-)

Erm the new rules still state the various cat tests and checks are for "spark ignition cars" so last time I checked that's still a petrol. At least it is at my 2 nearest MOT stations when I checked lol. Iv read at least 1 MOT tester on here confirm it too, there is a link somewhere on here to the handbook for anyone wanting to read it in black & white.

ill take a pic if the failure 2day n post it up.. doesnt mention petrol or diesel...

i stand corrected..

looked this morning + although it is mentioned in the exhaust section not emmisions section (so compression + spark ignition testing rules not relevent)

it does state>>>>>

NOTE: diesels dont qualify for a 'full cat emmisions test'.
