Front Discs Coroded on inner side

Featured Replies

Had 1st variable service today at mileage 6441 - 18 months from delivery (£217.80 inc Pollen Filter)

Advisory - Front discs corroded on inner side.

Seems quite a short period. Has anyone experience this ?

18 month with such low mileage and alot of rain, they will rust fast. mine are rusty when ive washed the car. daily driving with reasonable braking keeps em fresh

Yes, thats the problem. Low mileage over an extended period is just as bad for brake disks as high mileage over a short time. For the latter they wear out, but for low mileage they rust to the point that they cannot be saved. Since the disks are made of exposed steel, just like all steel in the air it rusts.

go carbon ceramic and itll avoid advisories, but...... at a cost

Seams like you're an eco-driver.

Drive the car as you had stole it. It needs some rough driving sometimes. Both for the brakediscs and for the DPF.

I change discs on my girlfriends car every 15 months, she never apply the brakes.

I wouldn't worry. Discs corrode around the edges irrespective of how you drive. The small lip that isn't touched by the pad rusts very quickly. It does not have any influence on braking.

Dealer advisories need to be taken with a pinch of salt!!

Have a look yourself throught the alloy??

Could you locate the DPF on a TSI for me? (read the mans signature :D)

Carpro Iron-X should remove that surface rust pretty easily:

It was dealer wind up. Gianthotdog wins !

When it comes to dealers , everything has to be down in writing

I work at a VW dealers

If we change a brake light bulb , we have to have the vehicle on the ramp to do a vehicle health check

You have to inform the customer of all the tyre depths

this is something that gets me

Cos if the OP had not been told about them , then he found it , he can go back to the dealers to report it

So who is right??????

It is the whole world going mad

Sorry

But anyway , with your vehicle , dont drive like you stole it straight away , do some gentle bedding in , then drive it like you stole it

Have fun

The key word is advisory. However advisories are always followed by a price to fix, when you are paying.

I bought an approved used fabia that had rusty brake discs. I pointed it out on collection of the car and was advised by the dealer that this was normal and not to worry!!

Double standards.

Rusty-looking discs are normal shortly after washing a car and until a couple of brake applications have removed the very thin film of surface rust. Perhaps it was washed just before collection?

The "prod" about being an ECO driver amused me. At 77 I just dont scream around that much these days so after 18 months and 7k on the clock

i'll make a point of testing it more roughly. Its a very good old people home on wheels though
