Eibach Sportline Springs (vs H&R 50mm)

Featured Replies

Now then I know that Sportline springs are no longer offered for the mkII but do seem to be available for the mkIV Golf. Is there a specific reason that you can't stick a set of Golf springs on the Octavia (presumably to do with rear axle weight)?

I've recently driven a Golf on FSDs and Sportlines and it was very good, I'd consider a set of those springs.

What do the 50mm H&Rs feel like?

I've got the H&R 50mm springs on mine with H&R dampers, the ride is very good, really comfortable in fact.

I'd definitely recommend this setup...

Show us a picture Mark. I had a look through your thread and I couldn't find a photo of the car post-drop.

I'll get one tomorrow, I haven't taken any pics since they were fitted

Were they ever? I've not heard of anyone having these?

Springs is only one part of the equation - how they feel will largely depend on what dampers you pair them with. N.b. FSD's are only suitable for a small drop ( and personally I think they are overrated but that's another story).

I had always had the same thoughts re FSDs Rob, the car I drove was comfortable though but I would like to have seen what it was like when given some stick.

Sportlines were never offered on the Octavia, only Eibach Pro Kit although they came in red and black they were still Pro Kit springs

Here's the pictures of my vRS John, on H&R 50mm springs and H&R dampers.

Looking good bud.

Did you get them Local?

I had the H&R cup kit supplied and fitted by Keith in alloywheels.ie in Blanchardstown a few years back, but recently changed the springs from the 35mm to 50mm, looks a lot better now...

I saw that on FB I think?

I may be incorrect?

I think I asked at the time if they actually drop the vrs -50 ?

They are listed as 50mm for the octavia, but since the octavia vRS is already 15mm iirc lower than the rest of the octavia range, these springs lower the vRS by 35mm, my last H&R springs which were fitted until recently were 35mm which only lowered by 20mm, it looked better than stock, but still too high imo, this sits just the way I want, no rubbing issues at all with 15mm rear spacers fitted when the car is fully loaded with 5 passengers and a boot full of bags!!

I'd agree a 20mm drop is not really enough and the car still looks pretty high. -35mm for a vRS is the perfect height IMO - I have my coilovers set to give me a similar drop. At that height you've got a useful reduction in CoG, nice purposeful stance without looking "slammed" and still sufficient movement as mark says to allow a full boot and passengers without the car grounding/rubbing.

Can they be fitted with the standard shocks?

I think they will physically fit, but they will wear out your shocks a lot quicker or so I've been told, if your going to be fitting springs, its probably better to wait until you can afford updated shocks aswell and fit the whole lot at the same time

Hi Mark,

It is not the money issue but I suffer with back ailment and need to keep the car as comfy as possible.

I don't think the comfort will be any different whether its on stock shocks or uprated, if your going to drop the car that amount, it will be inevitably be less comfortable than oem, but to be honest, my vRS is still really comfortable, if money isn't an issue then I'd change the whole lot at the same time, I think the 35mm springs are ok on stock shocks, but the 50mm might be a bit too much over time....

Eugene, i have mark's 35mm springs in mine now with the standard OEM shocks and its as comfy as the OEM Springs and if anything the ride is nicer :)

with 35mm Springs

^ That actually looks nice. Not too high..Not too low.

@ Dallan and Mark

Are you both doing Vage 10 next month? Would like a look at both cars in the flesh.
